Re: Would you chi/pon in this situation?
Reading this kind of threads is always useful to learn. In sitym´s case I wouldn´t call the chi, it was pointed out is too early in the hand to do so... I think the same. Cool "almost sanshoku" there xKime. Tôka, Tôka everywhere... :) Note that my tenhou sound effects are also voice clips from Touk...

Re: Would you chi/pon in this situation?
I feel like this call I made today is pretty similar in a way. http://puu.sh/gzcy6/cb3f05dca1.jpg Fishing for 567 sanshoku or chun. But I also feel there's a very substantial difference. It's 4 flat scores, on my only dealer turn (east 1 on top of it) of a tonpuusen game where I do have dora, shimoc...

Re: Would you chi/pon in this situation?
Hey, Bart. Someone linked the thread to me and I just felt I needed to chime in. I definitely need to start posting more like in the old days, specially if we get WWYD dicussions, like this one. I'm typically just posting in Osamuko mahjong Facebook group lately, though. Now that you mention it, sin...

Re: Would you chi/pon in this situation?
I don't think your current round situation (East 2's second discard of a hanchan, no-dealer, and not to mention 3 people flat with 1 person flying with over 20k) merits calling a no-dora hand to turn a bad shape 3shanten into a bad shape 2shanten (with the prospect of a bad shape tenpai that would n...

5s. No need to go back any shanten; mahjong is about speed, riichi and tsumo. Note that you can still go for open tan yao this way without ever having to go back to 2 shanten.
9s is valid, but I feel it slow and optimistic at 7th draw.

Re: General patterns to adopt when trying to advance your sk
tl;dr
The only "general pattern" to advance your skill is studying; studying properly.
If you want a casual game where you can follow a few hard rules and win/tie, playing tic-tac-toe is your best option.

Re: General patterns to adopt when trying to advance your sk
The best choice depends mainly on situation, rules and win condition. Especially what the "win condition" is. In a championship where the top two players proceed to the next table, winning a hand to confirm second place is perfectly acceptable, but when it is only the top player who advances then it...

Re: WWYD 2013-04-01
The bridge to sanshoku seems tempting, but not on flat East 1. As much as possible, tile efficiency. If you draw 6s it's still mentanpin anyway, and there exists a bridge to ittsuu, so value is not something to be worried about during your dealer turn; the priority being renchan.

Re: Free Tenhou 15 day premium membership (ends 10/31)
Little offtopic here, but, really, there is 2 million premium users on tenhou? Is there some statistic of players registered, playing, and even better more with more details about tenhou (and I'm looking also for other web games, like janryumon, toupai-ou, mahjonglogic games, and every othere). Tha...

Re: WWYD 2013-03-05
:east Pinfu Ittsuu Dora 1 is the goal here. The ton isn't helping that. Breaking any taatsu from ryanshanten is generally a bad idea, especially if the taatsu happens to grant both dora and ittsuu. Throwing away the 7pin pair in favor of the ton is weak too, because even if you pair up the yakuhai,...

Re: Janryumon's update to Shin JRM as of earlier this week
No, it is not free, in a way. You have two types of currency: Table Rake and Dragonballs (I'm not even kidding). While you receive some Table Rake when you register, you must spend money to refill it. Dragonballs, however, are something you just gain from every game and you don't really buy. To play...
