Re: So... What Rules Do You Play With?
Rather than list my preferences for all different types of rules and rule sets, I'll just give some thoughts on two rules that (as far as I can tell) aren't as commonly discussed but have come up for me. When are kandora revealed? This is probably the more obvious of the two rules, since Tenhou draw...

Re: The Tenhou Log Review Thread (TTLRT)
South 1, turn 7: Riichi? South 2. Should have thrown my hand instead of riiching in turn 9? (-12000 is a big ouch here) South 3-2. The hand that started the discussion. Lesson here is how awful my discarding was. Interesting points: Hell wait vs Furiten fresh tanki, and how to gauge what level of h...

Re: WWYD 2012/08/01
You seem to live in an alternate universe where chasing pinfu (which will do both, restrict you from calling tiles and quite evidently lower EV) or tan yao (whose natural discard procedure will in most cases require you to drop a shanten which you cannot do under the present situation) are in any w...

Re: WWYD 2012/08/01
:north Late to the party on this one. I actually saw this a couple days ago, and my 5-second have-to-discard-a-tile-now reaction was North then, but I wanted to wait and brood over it a bit; partly because it's a complicated question and partly because the player's first five discards put me in a po...

Re: 10 diff T&H vs daburu riichi, what do you do?
Declare the abortive draw. Someone has done this to me before, and it is so incredibly frustrating. Probably the only thing worse would be having a starting hand that's tenpai as a non-dealer and someone declares an abortive draw before you draw your tile. Was that yakuman coming? You'll never know ...

Re: noob question: how should i play in this situation
I'm back on the computer where Tenhou works, and since I'm bored, I'll go over the game and I see if I agree with the other comments. E1: Your hand is all over the place because you are half-committing to the flush. For example, on the second go around when you draw 9p, you cut 3s even though it is ...

Re: noob question: how should i play in this situation
I can't seem to access Tenhou from this computer at the moment, but I'll respond to the tiles you posted. Be aware that I'm not taking account defense, or what tiles have already been discarded, and these are both things which would normally influence the decision. east2, i'm south, dora: red-dra 1-...

Re: Rinshan + Haitei
To clarify, drawing the last tile from the dead wall instead of the live wall as you describe does not score Haitei, so it is impossible to combine those two yaku.

Re: WWYD 2012/06/06
2-bam At this point, if we try to force the ittsu, we're likely to end up discarding tiles that would have advanced our hand. This is particularly true because there are a lot of ways the the five tile run 56789p can turn into either two sets or a pair and one set besides just drawing 4p, and any of...

Re: WWYD 2012/05/30
edit: confused Wavemaster's example final result with a hand as it would properly develop. Can you space out a 14th tile or something when you do that ? Still find it ludicrous. You're still planning on filling three closed waits to finish your hand. A shanpon wait with a dora pair makes more sense...

Re: WWYD 2012/05/30
Totally disagreeing with WaveMaster who produced a 3-shanten solution for a 2-shanten hand. The hand was 2-shanten before drawing the red 5p, and it will still be 2-shanten no matter what tile we discard. There was nothing 3-shanten about the possible solution I described. You can see for yourself ...

Re: WWYD 2012/05/30
8-bam We have a somewhat strange pond here considering our hand. I have to wonder how this hand progressed. Anyway, there aren't any really excellent choices here. I don't want to get rid of any of the dots right now since they all have the chance of connecting to the dora in an open tanyao hand. Th...

Re: Should I have seen this coming?
Not that I need to say this, but even if any of us would have played it differently, that doesn't necessarily make it a better way to play. Had your opponent's wait been different you might have pressed forward and won as dealer with a nice hand. It's not impossible that your opponent could have had...

Re: WWYD 2012/05/23
9-dot If we still want to win, keeping the 9d pair means abandoning the 9c dora pair at some point. That isn't something we want to do both because we don't want to remove dora, and because the dora is surprisingly safe against everybody so we can defend with it later. Keeping the 1c allows it to co...

Re: Discussion regarding rule sets based around Riichi and M
I don't even need to say it but, "Zung Jung is better and less luck-influenced, and since I'm such a skilled player I prefer it! " sounds like people saying "I'm really good at mahjong, but I can't get past 3rd/4th dan in any mahjong server, and I lose whenever I play with my less-skilled friends I...
