Re: Exactly how tough is Chuurenpoutou even in 3er?

Sega MJ doesn't have the Declare North as Dora option for 3er - a set of North Wind tiles counts as yakuhai, as if it were a dragon set.

Exactly how tough is Chuurenpoutou even in 3er?

I just made my first Chuurenpoutou ever, but this one was in 3er though at the SEGA MJ site. Started with two 1-dot and two 9-dot - wound up having to wait for the last 9-dot for it, but my lesser valuable waits were 7-dot and 8-dot - got it on a ron, from the same guy who threw out a 9-dot earlier ...

I'm officially on fire! Four Yakuman made in a span of just 42 hours or so...

And I have gone three days in a row with at least one yakuman made... OK, so two of these yakuman were in 3 player mahjong... OK - I finally jumped into MahjongSoul today...

...and it didn't take long for me to buy in to that site. Defaulting to English and also having payment options in USD instead of JPY for things you want to buy (in a pinch), where almost no other site offers is a big plus for sure. Starting with 10,000 copper coins off the bat doesn't hurt either. ...

"Red" North Wind tiles...

I wonder if there are such :north tiles in real life that are red like those red fives, since I know that at least one version/variant of the Sega MJ5R mahjong video game does use such red north wind tiles in at least one variant of the 3 player game, since there would otherwise be only one or two r...

Re: Mahjong Book by Whitney

I am wondering exactly when the concept of dora and red fives were introduced (and I believe it to be around the early 1980s, but I can be wrong), since I remember the concept of dora (and maybe red fives) is already understood by 1989, since the Japanese-only release of Yakuman for the Game Boy doe...

Re: Just hit a very rare occurrence...

Wouldn't it be (132 choose 9) and (136 choose 13) instead since I was a ko and I got the ankan in my initial 13 tiles before my first draw and if it is, wouldn't it be... (34*(132 choose 9))/(33*(136choose 13)) = 0.00005403... or about 1 in 18,507 hands as a ko player or am I doing something incorre...

All three sets were open and kamicha wasn't in riichi at all during that hand.

Not to mention that you were furiten as well because of your 1 man discard very early... That is some luck indeed with that ippatsu tsumo.

Is Pao usually a standard rule now?

Two days ago, I was playing at Sega MJ net and made a dai san gen yakuman in 3er with kamicha discarding the tile which made my third dragon set. I then subsequently went agari on a tsumo. To my surprise, both kamicha and toimen wound up paying half each, instead of kamicha paying all! I was quite s...

Just hit a very rare occurrence...

In JRM just now, I was dealt an ankan as a ko player, and when the dora indicator was flipped up, that ankan was immediately a dora ankan.

Wonder what the probability of that happening is - it's probably very rare...

Re: Junchan

I make this yaku from time to time, but it is not often - mind you, if one does get it menzen, it's 3 han instead of 2 han. You can stack this with a few other yaku, including sanshoku doujin (most common), iipeikou and pinfu (less common), but I agree, whenever someone makes this, it rarely comes w...

Frequency of high scores/certain yaku in 3er opposed to 4er?

I usually try to play 4 player mahjong as opposed to 3 player (since I don't think 3 player mahjong is "real" mahjong), but I've played 3 player on a certain site long enough to notice that... 1) High scoring hands are far more common (including yakuman level hands) 2) Certain yaku are much more eas...

Quick Note on Sega Net MJ

I gave it a bit of a test run, and I was impressed, with one downside - you really can't play 4p hanchan on "Free mode", only tonpuusen 4p and 3-player mode (but can't tell if that is a hanchan there). As for the keys, for those of you not having a Japanese keyboard, you have to remember that to tog...
