9-dot

Agree on the 9-pin. Keeping the 4-man creates a closed wait for the dora 5-man. So, that's a definite improvement. In addition, the potential for a 7-8-9 sanshoku is still permissable; although, the bet for attaining it at this point isn't a great one.

Re: WWYD 2012/07/04

1-crak or 2-crak or 5-dot

If there the rule allows Akai Dora, keep the 5-pin. Otherwise, drop it.

South Round. Nan Ankou. Even if dropping the 1-2 man may slow down development, at least, there's Toi Toi and/or San Ankou as an exit strategy, if the hand doesn't develop fast enough.

Re: WWYD 2012/06/27

5-dot

It'll bring the hand to 1-shanten for pinfu, while retaining possibility for Ittsu. However, if a 3-pin ever gets drawn, gotta kick oneself on the foot.

white-dra

By virtue of one being gone already. Chitoitsu, 1-shanten. Waiting to pair 3-4 Sou or Ton. Preferably pairing on the 3-Sou dora, asap.

Re: Yakuman Club

#4 via Tenhou http://s15.postimage.org/6hbdbqnw7/Yakuman_04_Kazoe.jpg OK. I got to tenpai a full turn before this. Once I got tsumo, my initial reaction was: "Oh no, why didn't I call riichi on this one?" Likewise, I did not know the hand's true value until it was scored. But initially, I ...

Re: noob question: how should i play in this situation

Well, y'get credit for getting to tenpai, while someone called riichi. But, that credit is immediately lost after dying. :P Granted, I still do some stupid things with my gameplay, of which, I am not open to discuss at the moment.  Back in my beginner days, I would have made the same mist...

Re: WWYD 2012/06/13

8-crak

Definite safe tile. May or may not interfere in possible development of pinfu + sanshoku. However, a little late to be thinking offensively; but it is nice to still have that option.

Re: Yakuman Club

At first glance, I was like: "How is that not Pao Rule?" Then, then answer is: "Oh, the same person musta dropped the Haku..." Sure enough, that is the case. And this takes me back to two instances of the Pao Rule happening in front of me. The first one: I was dumb enough to throw the third dr...

Re: Anime Central Tournament (2012)

http://reachmahjong.com/en/2012/05/acen-mahjong-taikai-3-results/#more-3733 No offence to Mr. Horton, but I am fairly certian that I was 4th place at the tournament. That is me (Ryan Crain) sitting at the table in the lower right of the picture (getting my butt handed to me, I may add). I still car...

Rinshan + Haitei

Is the combination of Rinshan + Haitei possible? Impossible, as I managed to read somewhere (can't remember where at the top of my head). For a long time, I presumed the occurrence as impossible. Then, I have another player claiming to have performed the feat. If allowed, this would entail a player ...

Re: WWYD 2012/06/06

Going for Ittsu. This becomes a choice between a Tanki (pair wait) on either 3 or 4 man down the road. Or, a Nobetan (double pair wait) on a 2 or 5 sou down the road. I'd choose Nobetan, for the better chance of getting pinfu, drawing out another 2 sou, or a 5 sou - before getting a 4 or 7 pin. If p...
