If anyone is interested, I've put together a quick English UI Guide wiki for Mahjong HIME.
I also signed up for the new pre-reg Web Client for the Japanese Riichi game!

Re: Mahjong Hime - Semi-Review
No sooner did I post this mini-review when a big update drops for Hime that adds in a Bonding system - 5 hearts with gifts and it unlocks new voices/outfits... similar to Mahjong Soul.
I haven't figured it all out yet... but it's a fairly major change.

Re: Janryumon M (Android/iOS)
Excellent news! I just downloaded it for my iPad (I keep a Japanese iTunes account handy with a few hundred Yen in case I want to make in-app purchases). Janryumon had an iOS client way back in 2011 or 2012... was one of the first games I played on my iPad Touch. It got discontinued within a year or...

Re: OK - I finally jumped into MahjongSoul today...
Thanks James - great to know you're still in the scene... your Japanese Mahjong Guide was one of the early docs that got me through those lean years when Riichi wasn't so well supported outside of Japan!
I decided to write up some thoughts on both Hime and Soul and post them here...

Mahjong Soul - Semi-Review
And the Mahjong Soul companion post for my Mahjong Hime post earlier. Well, it's been an uphill battle getting good western (read: English) support for Japanese Riichi Mahjong. I started playing Riichi in 2005 when I imported a video game for my Sega Saturn (anymore remember that?!). It was one of t...

Mahjong Hime - Semi-Review
I tend to play on Tenhou but more recently have been enjoying some of the better offerings on my iPad. I thought I'd talk about one of them: Mahjong Hime . Hime has been around since 2012 and it's extremely similar to the other iOS game I enjoy — Mahjong Soul. Even the title screens are nearly ident...

Re: OK - I finally jumped into MahjongSoul today...
I like both games but I prefer the aesthetics of Hime a bit more. Better voices, nicer animations, you don't have to fool with all the gatcha-powerups to get your character to read off the winning hands, nicer clacking of tiles, a bit more varied music ,etc. However, they are really similar. So simi...

Re: OK - I finally jumped into MahjongSoul today...
Yeah, I got into Mahjong Soul and also Mahjong Hime over the past month... I had completely burned out on Tenhou and was playing occasionally against the AI in Mahjong Fight Club (iOS) and SegaMJ (iOS). It's breathed new life into the game which I had somewhat abandoned over the last few years. Like...

Re: Mini-Review of iOS NET MJ by SEGA
Yes, good coverage as always, thanks Dave. Looks pretty similar to the PC version which I discussed previously . Looks very similar indeed! I wonder if the two online versions play nice together -- that is, do people playing the PC version and the people playing the iOS Mobile version play on the s...

Mini-Review of iOS NET MJ by SEGA
With Janryumon Mobile going offline on 10-Jan-2014 (though I can still play offline ... for now anyway), I started to search for some good replacements. I ended up logging into the Japanese iTunes store (you can create an account with another email address to access the Japanese iTuens/Apple Store -...

Great to see the new folks - welcome all!
I've had a bit of a hiatus in the last 2 months due to some time-critical projects, but I'm getting back to a full-day of Mahjong next weekend!

Re: Let's see your Mahjong Collections!
The new Noss Whitney has added colour photos of tiles throughout and removed "...the Modern Game" from the full title! I've got an older Noss Whitney and I found it a dry read and not all that well laid out. It was the first book I got on Mahjong and I'll admit it kinda turned me off the game some ...

Re: Alternative methods of enforcing Chombo
Since I tend to play a lot of teaching games, we don't usually enforce Chombo unless there is no way to continue the game. Often we'll just try and back out of the situation if it's only a single mis-drawn tile (correcting as best we can). If it's an illegal declare, we'll usually just let the playe...
