Re: Guide to ranking up on tenhou

It is considered the very correct thing to do, 30% is very low for jyoutaku (because jyoutaku is quite slow at reaching tenpai, it is actually very advantageous to have a high naki rate, even up to +40), and unless you are very menzen which is very hard to master (and I don't reccomend you doing so...

Re: Guide to ranking up on tenhou

I'm at 30% I'm questioning because the example you cited, was a very bad example for a good atozuke. And I believe, style plays a huge role. I've seen a 7dan with a high riichi rate. You shouldn't preach as though as it is the very correct thing to do with such an example. Especially you saying that...

Re: Guide to ranking up on tenhou

4) naki (chi or pon)- people in this table like menzen a bit too much. naki skills are very difficult to improve because it is a balance between defense and speed + attack but there is a certain set of skill that you have to master in terms of naki which is atozuke back. I show you some examples 1-...

A few players do it occasionally on Osamuko's fb group. Me included.

Re: WWYD 2015-03-24

You have good shapes to further develop this hand. Discard the pair of pei to go for flexibility instead of relying on 7m.

If 7m is being ponned, you can still make use of 8m and 9m upon drawing them.

Re: What would you do?

chance of oya pushing to tenpai is extremely high. This means high chance for him to deal in which makes you 2nd. The game will also continues if it ends with a draw as oya is likely to push till tenpai successfully. Therefore, there is no benefit trying to pray that you maintain your lead. Your cur...

Re: another gameplay question

Erm..even if 4m is dangerous, I will still deliberately choose no-ten.

The best case scenario of this West 3 is ending it with a draw. (of course we exclude winning as the best case scenario)

You give your opponent chances to catch up if you give this han-chan an extra round.

Re: another gameplay question

I suppose the mistake has been pointed out by saitym. My side to add on. Towards the Ryuukyoku at your last picture, instead of discarding 4m, I will discard 9m. Keeping tenpai and lengthen the han-chan is too disadvantageous to you. Let it go all-last with a 12k lead instead of pushing with a live ...

Re: WWYD 2015-01-21

I don't understand the discard of 3-dot at all. It makes your shape worse off and halve the chance of using the red 5. 789 sanshoku is way too far. I actually think aiming for 567 sanshoku is closer and 5-bam is dora. If I draw 9-crak i will discard red 5-crak. Discard 9-bam is bad because it doesn'...

Re: WWYD 2015-01-21

riichi pinfu dora dora is prioritised over unconfirmed sanshoku.

I will discard 8-dot to secure the aka 5p without losing any tile efficiency.

Re: Question about ryan peikou

The reason why ryanpeikou is 3 han is because it is easily stacked with pinfu and tanyao. a haneman is not difficult with riichi and tsumo. even without hitting ryanpeikou, getting riichi tsumo pinfu tanyao iipeikou is big enough. With this kind of hand, just because you happen to draw the winning t...

Re: another gameplay question

The alternative modern theory is to use the chun as the pair and riichi although your decision of aiming for a pinfu instead of relying on yakuhai is correct Since you cant do both of these at the same time, which is preferred? If I go for pinfu, I can't use the chun as the pair, so I would have to...

Re: another gameplay question

I did consider tossing one of the 4-bam but since I had six elements in my hand (67 99 45 678 445 RR), one of them would have to go eventually, and since the dragons could never be included in a pinfu, and it was very early in the hand, why not get rid of them now, when it's probably still safe to ...

Re: another gameplay question

phpjHwrS3PM.jpg A year ago, in my early stages of playing this game, I would have waited for a red-dra to be discarded, claimed it for my yaku, and then started calling everything for a yakuhai win....or.....I would have called everything to begin with and relied on atozuke for the win. I would eit...
