Push/Fold

I had an interesting situation I wanted to ask about: https://i.imgur.com/xaWSekp.png I have honitsu in tenpai with a pon of yakuhai and one dora, so 7700 points, but kamicha seems to be pursuing a crak honitsu; in theory a valuess East with another one already out should be pretty safe, but being a...

Improving wait

East 1, 7th discard, dora is 8-bam, this is your hand: 3-crak 4-crak 5-crak 4-dot 6-dot 8-dot 8-dot 3-bam 4-bam 5-bam 7-bam 8-bam 9-bam would you wait hoping to improve your wait, or declare riichi? If you draw 3-dot you gain pinfu and a shot at sanshoku, but if you draw 7-dot you get only pinfu wit...

Re: WWYD

The south wind would provide a yaku if I was sitting south or in the south round, which would yield more points should I need them, and make me feel better about discarding a dragon, or even opening the hand What I meant is, also if south was my or round's wind, I don't think I'd discard crak, so I...

Re: WWYD

This is the situation: https://i.imgur.com/xVgWapw.png 1. Is the south wind of any importance to me? How this affect the discard? Since it's dora you could want a quick hand, so hoping to draw a dragon is better? Maybe, just maybe, I might need Honitsu in addition to the other possible yaku But woul...

4-crak 4-crak 5-crak 5-crak 7-crak 7-crak 7-dot 8-dot 6-bam 7-bam :south :south green-dra red-dra What would you discard? I think I'd discard one of the dragons, since the rest of the hand looks quite nice, with a possible two runs in crak; the player discarded 5 crak, though, and the next tile she ...

Re: Short- and long-term tile efficiency

if you cut 1-bam or 2-bam, you lose one potential set, but you have 57 tiles that improves your hand I fail to see which ones Not sure what I did to have 57, but I was basing my message on Tenhou which gives 53: https://tenhou.net/2/?q=234788m7p2s445z (white dragon because Tenhou gives you the draw...

Short- and long-term tile efficiency

Let's say a player has this hand, with a called set (which is not relevant to the question): 2-crak 3-crak 4-crak 7-crak 8-crak 8-crak 1-bam 2-bam 7-dot :north :north What would you discard? On one hand, 7-dot is clearly unconnected and the way to go if you pursue short-term tile efficiency, since i...

Yakuman and riichi

Declaring riichi while having a yakuman doesn't give more points, and about declaring it in such a situation I found (I don't remember where) two theories: - you dont: you don't get more points, you just warn the other players you are tenpai. - you do: declaring riichi might scare some other players...

You can flip the fifth tile instead of the third as the initial Dora indicator to allow four additional replacements
What about the kandora? With the indicator as fifth tile, there would be just tiles for two of them, are kandora limited to two with this rule?

Re: Simple Three Player Mahjong

Two more: - honba are 300 points each, in three players that could mean each player has to pay 150 points; should honba be reduced to 200? - on a tsumo win, the loss is split equally; is this calculated as four players, or as three? For example, 1300 / 2600, in four players that means 5200: is this ...

Re: Simple Three Player Mahjong

Another missing rule: when there is a draw, on tenpai players pays 3000 point s to tenpai players; is this kept, it's reduced to 2000, or is missing altogether?

Simple Three Player Mahjong

On Jenn's book, she describes what she calls "Simple Three Player Mahjong", but there are some things missing (or that I don't understand), so I was wondering how that's supposed to work: - 1 to 8 of characters are removed; how should players build the wall? In the "Original Three Player Game", whic...
