Talk on Poker, Go, Game Design

I haven't posted in forever, but when I saw the following talk on Go, Poker and Game Design, the section on Poker reminded me heavily of Mahjong. I hope you find it as interesting as I did! http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1014383/Life-and-Death-and-Middle I think the speaker might have found Akagi/Ten/...

Mind if I ask what tile set that is? It looks nice!

Re:If you want something done...

You should leave the aids for accessibility to a tutorial or some other restricted mode I think. It\'s a great idea for getting players into the game, but they shouldn\'t be having their thinking done for them when they\'ve actually learned it. I think that will ultimately bore them quicker and has ...

Re:Beginner question: Where's the yaku in this hand?

Inside hand. No terminals or honors were present. In many rule sets, Inside hands are allowed to be open.

Re:Saki and Riichi?

Actually, I\'ve seen some people point out screenshots where they screwed up the animation and Saki has fifteen tiles. Really? Do you still have them and would it be too much trouble to link? http://www.osamuko.com/2009/04/08/errors-in-saki/ Two errors there. The fifteen tile screenshot is here: ht...

Re:Another Pinfu question and EMA rules

Reading comprehension 0? My no-ten example had nothing to do with the pinfu example. And what made you think I was addressing you specifically? I did mis-read the post which caused my question, but that was Shirluban\'s and not yours. Regardless, the response was aimed generally at the rule and whe...

Re:Another Pinfu question and EMA rules

I don\'t see what the confusion is about regarding an open wait. If someone dropped a 6, you COULD win on it. It doesn\'t matter that there are no more 6 tiles left when determining what completes your hand. A wait is the structure of potentiality latent in whatever incomplete part of your hand rema...

Re:Cheaters on Jan Ryu Mon?

After you go under 5000 point, it will show you to the webpage, where you just need to add more points, which will bump you back to 7000. When you try to enter a game, it should automatically give you the link. Thanks! I figured since it took me to the online shop that they were expecting me to pay...

Re:Cheaters on Jan Ryu Mon?

I\'ve experienced this as well. In fact, the game won\'t let me play anymore because my total points went below 5,000 which resulted from an inordinate number of opponents getting double reaches, big menzen tsumos while I was dealer etc..., the final nail in my coffin being a direct hit from a limit...

Re:Akagi

The manga hasn\'t ended yet. I\'ts ongoing, and has proceeded about 10 volumes past the ending of the anime, and Akagi is still playing Washizu. Akagi was written AFTER the manga Ten in which Akagi appears as an old man. So it was already established that he was alive into old-age, hence the anime e...

Re:3-handed Mahjong

I\'m pretty sure the penalty is made clear in the original post (which is to say that if you look at Essnoy\'s response, which proceeds in a question-by-question manner, it becomes clear that the part in which he talks about the \'penalty\' is referring to Pekepan\'s question about Tsumo scoring, se...

Re:Query re rules

In some rules, if more than one player declares a win the player who discards the winning tile pays both of them. In other rules, they only pay the player who would come next in the play order. I believe in all rule sets, three declared wins on a single tile actually ties the hand. In any case, a pl...

Re:Rules & Questioning

1.So if more is always true, then does the ryan peiko mix with chitoitsu? I\'m pretty sure this is not the case, seeing as you would have to break up the structure of the hand different ways to get it to count as both. Just like, I can\'t be waiting on the following formation: 12345 on a 3 or 6 to ...
