Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games

Thanks, that's interesting. Your pics aren't displaying for me, but the notes are clear enough. My phone still has buttons (retro chic?! 8)) so I can't try this properly, but at least on my laptop adding the language parameter in the query doesn't just change the interface language but also gives co...

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games

It's good that you can get some Japanese games direct from the Euro store at least.

The regional content is more clear to me on iOS since the web addresses have those two-letter country codes: US, JP, GB, CN, etc.

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games

Yeah, I did look for Onsen Mahjong but couldn't find it on the major sites. I see the Android version of the Return game is on Amazon US and Google Play . Has anyone downloaded apps from Japan or other foreign territories for either iOS or Android? I have no concept of how easy/hard it is. According...

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games

While I was reviewing this thread I saw some familiar faces in one of Steve's posts from 2016. Unbalance reused the characters/levels/colours from their Minna no Mahjong app in the Free Play mode of the PS4 version of Saikyou no Mahjong ! faces.jpg In related news, today I finally got the trophy for...

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games

I've given my iOS and Android app lists at the top of this thread ( link ) an overdue overhaul. I've removed old iTunes and AndroidZoom links, cleared out several early random additions and defunct titles (including Janryumon) and added some popular recommendations, but only apps with official downl...

Re: No matter what you cut, it works perfectly

So we're looking for incomplete hands of fourteen loose tiles where you can discard any of those tiles for Yakuman Tenpai. (The puzzle does not concern your latest draw - you've already drawn a tile to give you fourteen - but, for any of the possible solutions, you must've always been Yakuman Tenpai...

Mahjong Museum closed

I was sad to see on my virtual travels tonight that the Mahjong Museum (麻雀博物館) in Chiba prefecture was officially declared closed in 2017. The main page of the museum website simply thanks visitors for their patronage and says that sales of mail-order merch have already ceased. http://museum.takesho...

Re: No matter what you cut, it works perfectly

Still effectively Sunday night here. The answer would've been evident if the puzzle was "You have eighteen tiles and can discard any of two." :) The four wind triplets are correct so you're almost there. The solutions are not complete hands. You can switch between two very similar Yakuman. The kongs...

Re: No matter what you cut, it works perfectly

It's past midnight here, but I'll wait until it's properly Monday after I've slept! You should know now from the hints which Yakuman hands to use. One last clarification and hint for the first solution: Specifying a hand that's closed and without kongs was just a way of saying you have exactly fourt...

Re: No matter what you cut, it works perfectly

Yes, you can discard any one of your fourteen tiles and always be Tenpai for a Yakuman... or two double Yakuman. (That's a good hint for the other solution.) These are standard Yakuman hands, none of the exotic local rules I enjoy. I didn't say that I was going to give the answers. ;) (I will, but n...

Re: Riichi Scoring Website / Android Camera App

[...] the earlier positive replies from a couple of other posters I have my cynical moments so I did a little checking. Fun fact: The first reply comment on the Reddit thread for the camera app was made by an account with a "saki-" name, which has only ever made that one comment... and the account ...

Re: No matter what you cut, it works perfectly

The solutions don't specify which tile you just drew, but in both cases the hand was Tenpai regardless of the tile. Your hand remains incomplete after the draw, but every possible discard leaves you one away from a Yakuman. (The original heading on Wikipedia includes the words Yakuman and Tenpai, bu...

Re: Riichi Scoring Website / Android Camera App

I think it might just be a way of saving four sets of option settings, effectively four rule-sets which you can switch between without having to re-enter them. Yes, Hyakuman Goku is the Craks flush where the tile numbers sum to 100 or more. It's one of my favourites, although I doubt I've ever got i...
