Re: another mahjong book
I have to post a quick review/warning about a recent acquisition for my collection. Oh boy. 'How to Play Mah Jongg for Beginners' by "Andrew L. Grayson" is a slim volume from 2023 "printed in Great Britain by Amazon". avoidavoidavoid.JPG It's frankly bizarre. The 64 pages are (mostly) double-spaced ...

Re: Simple Three Player Mahjong
There's another rules decision for you - either build a dead wall of nine stacks (with the initial Dora indicator neatly situated in the central stack) or have the usual seven stacks and just rely on replenishing the dead wall from the back end of the live wall after each kong draw (after two kongs ...

Re: Yakuman and riichi
I don't remember seeing any stats on this specifically and I only have a little to add. Depending on their situations, declaring Riichi can make opponents switch to some degree of defensive play (as you said). If they run out of their safest tiles or they're still also trying to build their own hand...

Yes, Happy New Year to anyone who sees this. I'm still dabbling in mahjong video-games occasionally and checking in on this forum. The Chinese new year (10 Feb) will be the Year of the Dragon! red-dra red-dra red-dra white-dra white-dra white-dra green-dra green-dra green-dra :east :east :east :west...

Re: Simple Three Player Mahjong
Yes - just declared, removed and replaced, then scored as a bonus. However, unlike flowers, you can also use north tiles as part of your hand instead. (With a higher proportion of terminals and honours in play, it would be a shame not to be able to make Kokushi!) You can flip the fifth tile instead ...

Re: Simple Three Player Mahjong
Hi Mauro. Certainly these simple rules seem to be missing some crucial details; perhaps the implication is that a basic version of mahjong (for beginners) could omit some normal rules like Honba points and Noten Bappu (otherwise 2000 pts seems sensible for that). With the 2-8 Craks removed, the 108 ...

Re: Mahjong Fight Club Sp (Android/iOS) quick translation guide
Any news on a new game for consoles? I loved this game on my PS Vita and wish it would come out on Switch or other console. Hi. Good question - and the short answer is no. :( The MFC console games were always great choices for presentation and options but I haven't seen a new one since the Vita and...

Hi legra. Welcome to the forum.
There's lots of information in old threads here - hopefully some interesting or useful - mainly about Japanese/Riichi mahjong.

Re: another gameplay question
Yup, you got it.
The tiles you have - your entire hand - would include the closed/concealed section and any open/exposed sets made by calling.
Of course, the fewer tiles you have locked in open sets, the more potential you have to redevelop your hand structure on your next turns.

Re: another gameplay question
Hey Steve. Yes, it's fairly uncommon, but it's one of many areas where your club/group needs to understand or decide the rule specifics just in case it arises. This one comes down to whether or not you consider what's visible on the table (since another player doesn't know what's closed in your hand...

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games
The English version of D3's game compendium released in May/June for PS5/PS4 as THE Table Game Deluxe Pack . It has two, three and four-player mahjong plus a dozen other tabletop games. The presentation and translations are basic but it has some rule options and several opponent difficulty settings....

Welcome and thanks for sharing.
Looks good - I've always liked the idea of optional overlays of player aids.
Some people would not understand the exponential notation on small numbers though.
