The making-of-the-movie stuff at the end sure opened my eyes...because even if you don\'t know a ron from a howard, you sure want to look good while you\'re playing the game.

Re:Mahjong at the movies?
Here is a collection of YouTubes that I found interesting, in spite of the language barrier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1qjT_JbYcs&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no0VblMlRvU&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzMEW0zyT6g&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Scoring Tutorials
I\'ve seen the tables and descriptions, but are there any on-line or otherwise scoring tutorials for Riichi? My experience thus far in the world of Mahjong has been with Chinese Classical or specifically the 1924 codified rules. Because of this background, the process of determining on what table an...

Re:YMI Black Riichi Set
Sure, once I get rid of this flu that\'s been bugging me for a while.. Of course I need some method to determine the weight first, hope you\'re not in a hurry :P Fix, you needn\'t weigh any tiles on my account - I was merely making a "tongue-in-cheek" remark. I gather that the Take tiles have great...

Re:YMI Black Riichi Set
The Take Set is billed as weighing in at 2000g, which figures out to approximately 13.9 g/tile. Could you determine the mass of the YMI tiles and get back to me about it? :silly:FixxeR wrote: Take tiles have a better "feel" in them since they are a bit heavier than YMI tiles. Re:YMI Black Riichi Set
They are basically the same size as regular japanese tiles, maybe a millimeter or two narrower but one or two thicker than those, and this is compared to the Take set. Take tiles have a better "feel" in them since they are a bit heavier than YMI tiles. Not a big problem though. Fix, this was what I...

Re:YMI Black Riichi Set
With the blank-styled white dragons that are conventional in Japan, I have a problem as well with tiles that do not feature colored backs as is the case with the YMI sets - the white dragons will wear differently since either side is subject to the effects of \"washing.\"

YMI Black Riichi Set
I own three Mahjong sets, but none of them are riichi. I know I can play Riichi Mahjong with any of them, but I\'d like a set that (at least) was of the smaller dimensions of the sets offered from Japan and have red fives. The YMI set in black looks mighty attractive... http://www.ymimports.com/p-76...

Dora = Yaku?
http://japanese-mahjong.com/riichi-mahjong.html
Or does it?
Gg
Isn\'t this incorrect? Isn\'t a dora worth a fan or han or whatever they\'re calling it these days? Merely melding a dora doesn\'t equal one yaku.dora
A tile which is worth 1 yaku.
Or does it?

Re:Dead Wall Question
You dont have to physically add tiles to dead wall. You just have to end game X tiles earlier where X is number of kan\'s made. So if there was one kan, the last tile you take is the one at the top of the last column, not the bottom one. When there are two kan\'s you can move the last column to the...

Dead Wall Question
My question has to do with where the tiles are removed from the kan wall and how and when they are replaced. I understand that the 14 tiles to the right of where the wall is broken is defined as the kan (dead) wall, and the top tile in the third row from the left (the very end of the wall both live ...

Furiten Question
As I understand it, furiten denies a player the ability to ron if any of his/her discards would complete his/her hand. Players who are furiten may only go out via tsumo. I guess my question is, if I\'ve discarded a tile earlier in the round that is represented in my waiting hand I am not to claim a ...
