Re:My New Take Set - Initial Impressions

It seems yours is pretty much one of the most popular sets in Japan. I have seen the exact tiles in many places. The set is though very good and I like it. I would think that people tend to determine if the set is good based on how the carvings are done in each tile. That really is the art part thou...

Re:Discussion Rule Variants

Scoring lower when you can score more is not common for anybody. Case here is if it is possible or not. You say that Japanese don\'t do this, because you have never saw they do it, or because you have read it in some rules set. If so please show link to it or some other reference, because I would l...

Re:Discussion Rule Variants

I am not familiar with EMA thing. I am talking about the popular rule in Japan. In many areas in Japan as well as most (probably all) professionals follow the rule I am talking about. I believe it is rather rare to see differences in scoring system among local rules actually. If you play with the ru...

Re:Discussion Rule Variants

Then Ryanpeikou (3) could be just Chiitoitsu (2), but it won\'t happen. According to the rule, Yaku\'s are decided based on the bigger number of fans.

Re:Discussion Rule Variants

Well, there is another set actually in local rules. But not many know it, so I do not have to say about it here.

Re:Discussion Rule Variants

I think if its concealed, you count Iipeikou and Junchan. So you can have more fans.

Hey there. Just find sevenup there. I usually go there and play everyday, around 10pm Japan time.

Re:Discussion Rule Variants

You are right about Pinfu. Which has to have the pair and you have to have Ryanmen-machi, concealed. So you have to be specific in what tiles you have to wait for the win. I did not have to include both Junchan and Pinfu for all occasions. But in 111222333 789 99 (concealed), you will always get Jun...

Re:Discussion Rule Variants

In that example, either Junchan/Pinfu or Sanankou would be determined by the tile you wait for to win the hand. So, it is different from what I have been saying in the case of Iipei and chiitoitsu. In this case, it is always the last tile to make the last pair. There is no option. Changing the rule ...

but that is exactly what we call \"local rule\" actually. Anything that is not used commonly is considered to be so. ローカルルール B)

Re:When, exactly, is the new dora shown on a kan?

agree with you. But somehow, when I used to play with friends we opened the dora after discarding a tile.

This could be considered one of those \"local rules\". I play at Toupai-oh, and they flip it immediately after a kan.

Re:Discussion Rule Variants

I guess I should have said there was no good reason why someone came up with the rule. 223344 are not seen as toitsu (pairs), but shuntsu (sequence), and based on that they decided that chiitoitsu can not have iipeikou. But it can also look like there are four pairs as well by the look. Then why not...

Re:How about at Toupai-oh?

I probably have seen you there before. Well, I am in Japan, and usually play there at night. Sometimes I play there in the afternoon also.

Give me a shout when you find me then. :)

Re:When, exactly, is the new dora shown on a kan?

Like I said, there is no official rule for it. But most of the people and many Jansou (a place to play mahjong) as well as online games flip the dora when you make a kan.
