Re: Finally!

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. My search-fu wasn't working.

Finally!

I've no idea where this fits on the board, but I just won my first East-Only game on Tenhou! It only took 30 games (this is my first week playing online) :) It helped that I started with this: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/45934553/tenhou1.png And a few other lesser hands won which led to this: https://d...

FavIcon for ReachMahjong.com

I noticed the ReachMahjong.com has no favicon. That's the little 16x16 icon that shows in the web browser and also when a person bookmarks a page. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/45934553/favicon_missing.png You can see the missing icon for ReachMahjong.com. It's a small deal, obviously, and one some sites...

Re: Video Mahjong Cheat Sheet

Finally, highly suggest learning the yaku in Japanese -- and refer to them as the "names" of the yaku. I revised the sheet to include the Japanese name and the Kanji/Kana. Hopefully it is correct. The goal of keeping it to one page is getting harder :) If anyone wants the original .doc (Word97 and ...

Almost \o/
You may want to review the scoring of the first two yaku.
 Corrected.

I'll try my new signature! I feel more important already :D

Re: Video Mahjong Cheat Sheet

Having a cheat sheet crammed to one side allows a full scoring table to be included on the backside. Finally, highly suggest learning the yaku in Japanese -- and refer to them as the "names" of the yaku. Possible to do, despite not knowing much Japanese to begin with. Originally this sheet had 2 si...

Re: Video Mahjong Cheat Sheet

It's nice, but you made an unforgivable mistake. The yaku having a different value when open or closed, always worth more with a close hand . And "four pon and a pair" worth 2 han, disregarding if the hand is open or closed. Mea Culpa! I'll get that corrected now and up-upload to the same location....

Video Mahjong Cheat Sheet

Here is a one-page cheat/summary sheet for Video Mahjong games that I used to help remember the tiles, wind order, scoring stick values and - most importantly - some of the more basic Yaku to achieve when you are first learning to play. It is not comprehensive - it is meant to be a one-page referenc...

Re: POLL: Introduction forum & profile info

Since this was my suggestion I will lobby for it publicly here. First, I feel that an introduction thread is quite distinct from Profile info - the latter is for people who have already joined. The former helps attract people who are on the fence and perhaps lurking already. Profile info doesn't hel...

Re: Homemade Mahjong Controller

Now, I want to see this puppy in action. Sadly, the controller does not seem to have improved my skill (or lack thereof). Also amused @ how the Riichi button is... a red one. The red button! Must... press... red... button... I got to pick the button colors and bought extras in other...

Along with the great resources mentioned above, I've become a huge fan of this semi-recent Youtube series of videos on learning Japanese Riichi Mahjong: How to Play Japanese Mahjong - A Comprehensive Walkthrough Part 1/4 How to Play Japanese Mahjong - A Comprehensive Walkthrough Part 2/4 How to Play...

Re: Homemade Mahjong Controller

For all my previous arcade controllers I typically rip apart a defenseless keyboard or mouse (or both) and wire it up. Witness one of my big homemade arcade controllers: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/45934553/big_controller.jpg In this case, the buttons and joystick are wired up to the keyboard. The spin...

Introduction Forum

One small suggestion I'd have is to have an introduction forum or perhaps just a pinned introduction thread where new forum members can introduce themselves. I moderate a game related forum and these sorts of introductory threads are always a good place for newbies to get their feet wet and at least...

Homemade Mahjong Controller

Hi all (my first post!), I've been playing quite a bit of Video Mahjong over the years - partially by trial and error and then later with really helpful guides like the ones Bart wrote. Given that most of the Mahjong Video Games come out of Japan, the rules were some flavor of Reach Mahjong though I...
