Kong88

I have tried Kong88. In brief: 1) The 2-player game is OK, I guess. It used dots and honors only. 2) The 4-player game uses Hong Kong rules. The major problem I have with this is that the pace of play is much slower than I am used to from the Japanese mahjong sites. Being a US resident, I am not all...

Re:EMA vs Swiss/Buchholz system

Has anyone but me noticed that, when the uma is increased, the current system degenerates into something much like drob\'s system, but with a different tiebreaking mechanism?

Re:Discussion Rule Variants

I was thinking about how people on this site like to compare mahjong to poker.

In poker, there is the \"Cards Speak\" rule.

Re:Dead Wall Question

What makes you think it keeps track of the \"living wall\" and the \"dead wall\" separately? Rather, more likely it just draws tiles as needed, as in Washizu mahjong.

Re:Dead Wall Question

I believe that house rules govern this. Try playing on tenhou.net. On their interface, you can actually \"see\" the wall and how it is done. When someone declares kan, the dead wall does indeed shrink -- and the game continues until either someone wins or all tiles other than those in the dead wall ...

I remember the only yakuman I ever got in a 4-player game. It was a daisangen, on Toupai-ou. I did not finish in first place, though.

\"Japanese\" credit card?

You might as well speak of a ruler that measures in \"Japanese\" centimeters.

Honba count

Is it true in riichi that, every time the oya (dealer) changes, the honba count resets to zero?

I was playing on Toupai-ou today, and the honba count kept increasing through at least two dealer changes. (In case you\'re curious, it reached 11.) Does this mean there\'s a bug?

Re:Making Mahjong Card Game

Gorgeous!! The only thing is, you are using a literal translation of \"white dragon\" which is not appropriate here. I believe that the Japanese refer to dragon tiles collectively as \"sangenpai\", and to the dragon tiles themselves as \"haku, hatsu, chun\" for white, green, red dragons respectively...

Re:Guildford UK Mahjong Tournament Report

I do not like the \"add 2 fan\" of the \"bam bam\" method. I am used to the method without this, at least for 5 fan and over. I have made a mnemonic \"diamond\" graphic for this, which you can see below. I do agree with you, hirohurl, that counting fu is disagreeable. Personally, I would rather just...

Re:Making Mahjong Card Game

Some people use four red fives, thus: red-dot red-dot red-bam red-crak

And you do not need four of each flower or each season. You only need one of each of the four flowers, and one of each of the four seasons. And for Japanese rules, you can do without these altogether.

CO have one feat: it\'s a standard rule.
Thou can go anywere, say hardly "Anata jouer Chinese Official?" and play. Don\'t need to ask what options or varients are used, there is no optional nor variable parts.
People are sheep.
