Re: Furiten Riichi Strategy: WWYD?

Thanks for the replies guys! I wanted to try coming up with interesting problems that also illustrated the situations I wanted your opinions on! 1) Making a furiten riichi and letting pass a win are two different things. You are East and have a winning hand, so you should almost always call the win ...

Re: Newbie introduction

Hi there, been playhing mahjong for a while but finally decided to register on the forums. A friend of mine showed me how to play in college; though there were very few opportunities to actually play mahjong with them in real life, I enjoyed it a lot and started playing on Tenhou. I'd travel to even...

Re: WWYD 2012/12/31

I play far too aggressively for my own good, so I'd probably throw away 1-crak hoping to avoid ippatsu and then continue developing my hand, but the best play is throwing away 5-dot and defending. also, I don't know if this question will be answered or seen because this is an older WWYD, but why is ...

Re: WWYD 2013/1/7

I feel like I'm honestly going to get laughed out of here for suggesting it, but looking at the position of the game, I'd prioritize a stronger tenpai over a quick-scoring hand. 2-3-4-5 is a very strong group of tiles, and discarding 2-dot would leave you in a probable kanchan wait to complete your ...

Furiten Riichi Strategy: WWYD?

I know that in general, calling Riichi while in furiten (or even putting yourself in furiten WITH your riichi) is a very risky idea. But in certain situations, would it be advantageous to call it anyway? I want to know to help strengthen my mahjong game and know risks that I can take and maybe get a...

Re: Riichi Rules Advice

This is just my opinion, but kuitan allows flexibility and is a good thing for mahjong. It is no easier or more difficult to get than an early fanpai/yakuhai, which allows the same kind of flexible but (usually!) low-scoring offensive play that relies on the dora tiles for hand value. It really depe...
