Re:Open Tanyao

It\'s the same reason why there\'s a 1-fan minimum But there\'s not - there\'s a 1 yaku requirement. You can get a han from dora, but that won\'t allow you to declare a win. Anyway, when you\'ve seen me play with open tanyao, I\'m pretty sure you\'ll all agree that perhaps Europe isn\'t ready for t...

Re:Saki and Riichi?

That\'s not what I\'m talking about.

If you draw your tsumo tile, rather than finishing the draw, she would switch it INTO her wall, and then take that whenever she makes a kan. That way she wouldn\'t need to know what the tiles in her wall were.

Re:Linguistics of Mahjong

I don\'t think there\'s a problem using arabic numerals, but I just think the tiles look better without them. Although, there are beginners who need them for the wan tiles in particular.

Linguistics of Mahjong

About the front-page article by Gemma. Well, if you look at the Olympics, for instance, there are basically three \"official languages\" of the Olympics. English, French, and the native language of whatever country it\'s being held in. So if Reach Mahjong enters the mainstream, tournaments would pro...

Re:What Would You Discard August 1st

Haku, honitsu, one dora- mangan. You can call tiles to your heart\'s content as well.

So I would cut the 4b here if this was the first discard...

Re:Saki and Riichi?

Actually, I was thinking about how Saki could do it with cameras. For instance, maybe she waits until she gets a tsumo, then switches it into her wall like Ichikawa. And then she just waits to make a kan and switches her draw, to take the tsumo tile? It\'s just a theory, though. Still, if you think ...

Re:Saki and Riichi?

Actually, I have a bit of fun trying to explain the ridiculous stuff in Saki with cheating. With what I know from watching Legendary Gambler Tetsuya, this is what I came up with. What if Saki switches her rinshan tile with something from the discards? :D Yuuki: Girishi. Draws two tiles at once... bu...

Re:Rules & Questioning

What? You can. If you declare a closed kan, then it\'s treated the same as a closed pung in terms of getting suu an kou.

Just means there\'s one less red 5 in the wall. Though I guess there might be some people who have house rules about it.

Re:Saki and Riichi?

Obviously I object to you saying that you need to add all these ridiculous things to make mahjong interesting. For instance, even in Ten or Akagi the mahjong is quite a bit more realistic, and they still manage to make it exciting.

When I read Saki, it\'s more about suspending disbelief.

Re:Saki and Riichi?

Actually, I was playing someone on Tenhou who used the handle \"takochan\". ^_^

Well, the more the merrier. Hopefully it brings a lot of novices so I can win more~
