Re:handling of tiles

Please do not make fun of my question. First, it was not specifically about what if someone screams \"There are fewer than 136 tiles visible!\" in English. One could certainly express this in Japanese. Second, it had to do with the cheating techniques, some of which involve hiding tiles in your hand...

Re:Oh... wait.

I could be wrong, but I believe that under JPML rules, you were not in tenpai.

Jenn (or Gemma), we need your help here.

Please go to the rules page and tell me what it says about riichi and tenpai. The rules page is here:

So... was this chombo?

As last dealer, ever deliberately deal into a low-scoring hand just to end the game?

Re:Hikkake reach

I think the \"janki\" in \"janki ryuu\" means something like \"mahjong devil\", which is fitting, since \"janki ryuu\" rules would be quite fitting for a mahjong parlor in Hell.

Setokuma likes two things I hate

Setokuma likes discarder-pays-all on ron and he also likes furiten. I wonder: what are his feelings on atozuke? Why is the discarder of the \"last\" tile considered \"responsible\" for a player winning? If a player has 3 or 4 melds from the same other player and wins on self-draw, why not have the p...

Re:Help in identifying an oddity

The second picture is mahjong tiles, but that\'s only one suit plus dragons: not good for mahjong, but great for baccarat.

Re:Szechuan Style Mahjong

Once I brought my mahjong tiles to a Chinese restaurant, and a lady there showed me her version: 128 tiles (1-crak thru 9-crak 1-bam thru 9-bam 1-dot thru 9-dot and :east :south :west :north red-dra only), honors used as flowers, 16-tile hands (win on 17), and the 3 tiles matching the \"dora indicat...

Misspellings in mahjong docs

I have noticed some misspellings in \"official\" mahjong docs, specifically: 1-crak 2-crak 3-crak 4-crak 5-crak 6-crak 7-crak 8-crak 9-crak 2-dot 2-dot 2-dot 5-bam 5-bam This yaku is called \"itsu\" in the European Riichi rules, which is a spelling error. I am sure that the correct spelling is \"itt...

Re:Hypothetical hands - how would these be handled?

This reminds me of the following from Tetsuya: East\'s initial 14 tiles: 1-crak 1-crak 1-crak 1-crak 2-crak 3-crak 4-crak 5-crak 6-crak 7-crak 8-crak 9-crak 9-crak 9-crak and he dies (as in \"departs this life\") Through my tears (I don\'t often cry at movies), I wondered: Would this score as: a) a ...
