Re: Shou san gen and beyond
Shousangen + honroutou is the most flexible way to make a kazoe yakuman without incidental yaku or dora. You can get shousangen + 2 dragons + honitsu + honroutou + toitoi + sananakou + sankantsu + double wind. Each one of those is worth 2 han, for a total of 16 han. You can remove for example sankan...

Re: another gameplay question
Iapetus. Understood about the half a han, but in the above, you do mean pinfu instead of tanyao, correct? You get both pinfu and tanyao. Discard 4p -> Draw any of 58m 47s -> Discard 1m for tanyao pinfu. For open tanyao you can also call 58m 47s. I mentioned only tanyao because it's an unique benefi...

Re: another gameplay question
I did consider tossing one of the 4-bam but since I had six elements in my hand (67 99 45 678 445 RR), one of them would have to go eventually, and since the dragons could never be included in a pinfu, and it was very early in the hand, why not get rid of them now, when it's probably still safe to ...

Re: Saki:the case of the extra tile
They are discards. Nodoka is East. You can see the dice roll is 11 and points to Saki, so Saki is West.

Re: yaku contest:kana vs koromo
I've never heard your interpretation of Rinshan Pao before, Ignatius. I can't directly disprove it, but I can demonstrate why it probably is wrong. What if a player calls daiminkans from multiple players, then wins by rinshan? Who pays what? That alone makes it unlikely that the pao extends past the...

Re: yaku contest:kana vs koromo
Question: In ep.16, on that Koromo win, she calls riichi "on the tile she just picked up on the last turn". Kana says, "I can't call" and the top of the screen reads, "note: you can't call tiles during the last turn" I am having trouble understanding this. Can you explain? Translator mistake. You c...

Re: Tenhou gameplay
E1: Your discard order after riichi is strange. Haku should have left the hand first, followed by 4p. You keep both of those tiles for too long, despite them being fairly or perfectly safe, and completely or fairly useless to your hand. After that you are low on safe tiles, so it's correct to push t...

Re: yaku contest:kana vs koromo
For maximum yaku count, you should go with the Koromo strategy. To avoid suuankou, you must abandon toitoi, but you get ippatsu tsumo in return. Instead of Honroutou you get Chanta. No double riichi. Three kans are called, bringing the haitei course to East, and Riichi is declared on the second to l...

Re: another gameplay question
It would be better to discard , since if you draw you can discard the dragon and go for toitoi.

Re: Just hit a very rare occurrence...
The probability can be calculated with simple combinatorics. There's a total of (136 choose 14) different starting hands. There's 34 different ankans you can get, and (132 choose 10) different sets of the remaining 10 tiles. The chance of the kan hitting the kan dora is 1/33. (34*(132 choose 10))/(3...

You have to use the long ID. If could login with just the username, anyone could steal your account. Because your computer saves it, it shouldn't even bother you.

Re: Junchan
Screw chuuren. Menchin-junchan-ryanpeiko is much rarer. Had he drawn a second 8s, that 1s would have been a Kazoe Yakuman ron (and a Heisenberg Strike). How I feel about Junchan: -Open Junchan only is almost never worth going for. -Open Junchan with sanshoku or a dora is okay. -Open Junchan Sanshoku...

Re: Post your Chankan
http://tenhou.net/0/?log=2013091301gm-0029-0000-x08ead6ccd4da&tw=0&ts=3 A fairly standard open attack that just happened to hit chankan. The sweet thing is that it upped the score from 3900 to 7700. Those points ended up being necessary. I don't agree with the decision to kan there, as it had a much...
