Re: WWYD 2013-03-11

I agree with the 8-crak or 9-crak .

I'd probably go for a 9-crak because I'm short-sighted and don't plan safe tiles...

Re: Sydney 2013

Welcome to the forum! If I remember correctly, members of the public can't enter the hall where they're playing, but there is a TV table in the hall and that game is broadcast to a room outside. It's a pretty interesting experience, and of course there's plenty of people knocking about who will play...

Re: WWYD 2013-03-05

Having just posted a beginners strategy translation from the JPML site, I'm going to say 9-crak or 8-crak

:east is a value honor so we should keep that. The next candidate for removal (according to the article) is the end wait set.

Re: Mahjong Group Assembled! Need Advice on Rules...

My experience in teaching people is that pinfu seems to be the most difficult hand for people to grasp. All the other hands are pretty obvious looking, especially if you play card games. After just letting people enjoy making hands, I then teach pinfu first. Then we play a few sessions where they on...

Thank you very much! I'll try and check the links but I'm the first to admit, website fixing is not my strongest suit.

Re: WWYD 2012/10/06

You are just staring at the very reason why your mahjong is over the 2.5 average placement. And there is a direct method to improve this: study more hand shapes. Especially the more simple ones like this one. Sorry, I should have made myself clearer. I was describing why I did it at the time. I wou...

Re: When in Reach... can I change tiles?

Also, never, EVER, let the tiles you draw after riichi touch the tiles from your actual hand. The only situation where this is viable is in broadcast matches were you must place the tile you draw on top of your tiles at hand. Watching them. It is a convention that even I picked up, where I view it ...

Re: WWYD 2012/10/06

I'll be honest. I didn't realise that it would be slower to tempai this way at the time. This is actually why I posted this WWYD, so I could get feedback and understand the shape in all the various theories. At the time, I was prepared to go for the open tanyao. I had: 7-dot 8-dot 9-dot . However, I...

Ok... You can all vent at me now!

I dropped the 8-bam and received a disgusting amount of luck.

Feel free to pull apart my strategy!

Re: Looking for a set

If you're in Europe and looking for a larger tile set, Dot1 is a good bet. The gentleman who runs it is very nice.

They also include the tile dimensions in their descriptions.

Re: Looking for a set

Yes... the Chinese ones are the ones you can build a house out of. 35x40 sounds pretty big to me. Are you located in the UK?
