Re: Optional Rules
I believe Oka is only calculated after the match is finished at the same time as the Uma. I actually would lump the two together as they are both extra(or less) points based on your finishing position. They're also used a lot in tournaments. Bankruptcy is only an issue in a tournament/league setting...

Re: 2-player variants?
The playing two hands each actually bares some resemblance to Washizu Mahjong (at least the version seen in Akagi) where 3 out of the 4 tiles are transparent and you work with the player to your right as a team, which makes the whole feeding yourself triplets less of a threat since your opponent can...

Re: World Riichi Championship 2014 - rules!
I can try asking tomorrow. Nice, I'm looking forward to see how it's handeld in tournament rulesets. :-) -- Simon Sorry it took me so long to get to this, had a busy week or so. Anyways I asked at the parlour today and the response was that in general in tournaments it's just a dead hand. ("agari-h...

Sorry, I wasn't able to make it in today. But I'll ask next time I'm in (either Friday, Saturday or next Tuesday).

Re: WWYD 2014-07-28
I'd chuck the non-red 5-dot. You're in iishanten already, and if you draw anything out of the 1-4 of dots or East you're in tenpai. Or if you get desperate you can pon East and go for a shampon wait on the 2-3 pin. Keeping the pair of 5p just because one is red feels like a trap. They're not connect...

Re: World Riichi Championship 2014 - rules!
* False ron without revealing tiles: Is it so prevalent in Japanese rulings to punish this with chombo, or would a dead hand suffice? I was advocating the chombo before, but I'm not so sure anymore whether that's the most common ruling. Needs research. -- Simon In most parlours in Japan you'll prob...

Re: BugMoney Tournament
Hey, is anyone available to be a sub at 2 PM GMT on Friday? We might be missing a person. Go to #bugmoney on IRC and contact Ozball or ping @Ozball on Twitter. Thanks! Looking at the schedule (and the current date), I guess you mean 2 PM GMT on Saturday, July 19 ? (I won't be available, I have a Wo...

BugMoney Tournament
Not quite sure if this should be in this forum or one of the others as it's technically advertising / promotion which I'm not completely clear on the forum rules for, but here goes: The BugMoney Mahjong tournament is starting today and I'll be doing some of the streaming / commentating if anyone is ...

Re: WWYD 2014-06-15
Yeah I'm with Krabman on this one. While you could throw the 5d an be iishanten it's a dangerous tile to discard at this point with no dots showing in any of the discard piles except for the 1 9d in North's. I'd probably discard the 6-bam first though, since it's on a suji of a tile in all three dis...

Re: WWYD 2014-06-08
I'd chuck the 7-crak . Two of the 9s are already gone so you chances at pinfu are lower than the other possible wait at 23c. My over all goal is just men-pin-dora, with a chance at iipeikou, and possibly another dora in the 5b if that comes up before iipeikou (though the 3c would be my next discard ...

Re: shuugi??
Below are the rules for this particular "jansou" where you must have 10 shuugi more than the host in order to satisfy the victory conditions. The 3 hanchans are east/north (tonpeisen). There are 3 red fives and 1 haku pocchi. The uma spread, wareme, and yakitori are not in effect but bankruptcy is....

Re: shuugi??
Just a quick post from me: The chips are usually given as you said for red 5s, ippatsu, and ura dora. Usually a bigger one is given for a Yakuman. There can be other possible reasons for getting one but these are the most common I see. I'll take a look at the Japanese in the screenshot when I get ho...

Re: General help for using a (phpBB) forum.
Does that mean that if you DELETE the message while it is still in your OUTBOX (before the recipient has read it), that it will disappear from the recipients INBOX, as if it was never sent at all. Actually the recipient gets a "This message had been deleted before it was sent" message in their inbo...

Re: Type of tile that is dora - differences on play style/sc
I think he's more referring to the style of play of the hand overall. Ie if it's East 1 and East is dora then people will play slightly more carefully, or are likely to fold more easily, as it's quite easy for someone to get to Mangan with only a triple of East (concealed or called). Out of the thre...
