Re:regarding furiten

As you get better at the game you will realize how important it is.

It is the cornerstone of defensive play and adds huge amounts of strategy and hand-reading potential to the game. It also rewards planning ahead and makes you think harder about which tiles to keep.

Re:Mahjong PC game

ALIS123:

That flash game you mentioned is good practice.

It does NOT cheat, and is actually easier than playing against above average human players.

It simply has better AI than the usually terrible ones you find. Once you can beat it easily it\'s time to go online looking for strong players.

2-Player Variations

Was wondering what 2-player variations are out there. Everything I\'ve tried has been dull so I made this up: DUEL - Use only one suit. - No other tiles. - Use only 3 copies of each tile (27 total). - There will be only one tile left to draw. - Any four sets with pair or seven pairs can win. - There...

Re:Would you have played a different hand?

I agree with Shirluban.

However, just based on your picture, i would not have reached unless i was very far behind.

You could still win big with the seven pairs dora-2 without needing to reach.

Having said that, you were the dealer which is generally the best time to take risks.

Re:What Would You Discard (9/26)

Well 3-bam might be good if it weren\'t the dora!

Need to hang on to that just to make the hand worthwhile.

Re:Simple question "why"

Because they have no Yaku.

You need at least one Yaku or you cannot win.

Re:Looking for automatic mahjong table sale agent

I know, right? Had NO idea those things were so expensive!!!

I guess the main market for them is real gamblers who want to get through as many games as possible in the fastest possible time.

Re:Looking for automatic mahjong table sale agent

Question: When I played at that parlor in Shinjuku recently, the tables they had were awesome. Not only did they deal the walls, but each player starts with their hands ready dealt as well- so no time is wasted drawing haipai from the wall. The icing on the cake was that even the dora indicator come...

Re:Played at Machao in Shinjuku!

Fairly easy, since pretty much all signs are in english too.

Finding places can be hard though since there are no exact addresses per se in Japan. You need to ask around and know the landmarks in the area.

Re:Played at Machao in Shinjuku!

Will do! The speed seemed to depend on the table. Once they put me on a slower table, another time on a mega fast one. Seemed to be a lot of different sorts of customers there. That said, I could definitely imagine it getting faster! I shudder to think. Why did you switch to Zoo? Is it non-smoking? ...

Re:Played at Machao in Shinjuku!

No, just tenpai. The speed was ultra fast. Basically you already had to be drawing as soon as the previous player discarded and make your move immediately on drawing. Basically you had to be thinking ahead at all times. Nobody liked it if you took time on your turn at all. The staff frowned on it to...
