I suppose SNUFU could mean "situation normal: you fouled up" (swapping the letter "u" for the word "you," the word "you" for "all" and "fouled" for the more common word associated with the phrase).

Re: Mahjong Group Assembled! Need Advice on Rules...

though 2 have not played any form of Mahjong at all. This is the biggest problem you face, and I didn't see anyone address it. Those two people need to know the basics of Asian mah-jongg before the session. You need to give them a lesson beforehand, or you'll be teaching them during the session, in...

Re: Question

That bone/bam set is of fairly recent origin (the bone is processed fishbone). Bone/bam sets are always being offered on eBay, every day. Some mah-jongg set vendors also have those fishbone sets available new. There's a list of vendors on the site where you found that picture (my site - FAQ 7k, I th...

Re: Recommended mahjong parlors in japan?

You will also want to find 3 players to go with to the parlor. Sounds like you're not fluent in Japanese, so it could be difficult to just find a pickup game.

Re: How to organize a Reach Mahjong Tournouament

If you're going to do a single-elimination tournament, the early-out players will lose interest and might leave before the final event.
Take a look at round-robin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round-robin_tournament
Most tournaments use round-robin, sometimes with a final round for the playoff.

Re: An actual Yakuman handheld game

I should note that it is possible that this was an export version made by Nintendo - there is a claim somewhere else on the Internet that there is an original totally Japanese version (that is, the brand would have been a Japanese language equivalent of "Computer Mahjong Yakuman"), made in 1981, tw...

It's around here somewhere. I hope I took the batteries out.

Re: An actual Yakuman handheld game

I actually have both that and, the Perfect Mahjong II from Bandai. I actually like the Yakuman over Bandai's, even though it came out about 4 or 5 years before it. Those old, non-back lit, LCD screens are hard enough to read and, Nintendo's is just easier to read. Bandai's dots and bams can look ve...
