Re: playstyles
The primary way is statistical ("digital"), and I am scientifically minded and not superstitious. However, it isn't the only thing; there are also such potentials as bluffing, incomplete mixing, etc, that can all affect the game a lot; and then if someone else is holding a tile (sometimes you just h...

I don't know either; perhaps a lot of people are doing other things or just have nothing much to write on here at the time. (I don't have a lot of things to write on here either.)

Re: WWYD 2013-10-14
I didn't notice it was tonpuusen (I was looking in the wrong place on the screen), but I did also select 1sou nevertheless. In tonpuusen this is certainly a bad situation and making tanyao and dora and other stuff would be good idea like you say. However, without knowledge of the match format (I don...

Re: A question on waits?
There are many things that may be considered. The "toitsu" theory is something I have not considered before, but now I can see how it can work. Another example is, if you have "1234p" and you have to discard the 1p or 4p and declare riichi (with the same waits either way), then I would think these a...

I don't play with such people, but I consider it a possibility that someone (including even myself!) might do so.Referee wrote:If you are playing with people that are willing to consider voluntary chonbo to stop a higher hand, then maybe the crux of the issue doesn't like on the chonbo rules...

5sou and make iipeikou possible, or possible chiitoitsu, and almost definitely making tanyao. Toitoi might also be the possiblity. The cards that would help are mostly not discarded yet, nobody else has declared riichi, it is east 2 round, and I am in east position; therefore it can also repeat. Thi...

Re: Alternative methods of enforcing Chombo
If the problem is other players getting points without earning it, just don't give them points. So, the offending player lose points while the others don't get any reward, and everything should be alright. I think it's how the JPML does, counting the penalty after the uma (?), but what Jenn once sa...

Re: Vietnamese version
Very broadly said, the rules in american mahjong for what I have gathered, change every year depending on a specified variable (correct me if I am mistaken) I think they just make up new cards every year to specify what hands are available. However, this does give me some strange idea of another ki...

I would do, although I don't intend you to name me in the document.alban lusitanae wrote:So tell me: would you take the time to evaluate and read a rule-set made by me? :) I would obviously name any people who colaborated on it on the final document

Re: Alternative methods of enforcing Chombo
Rule 1 about variant rules, rulings, and regulations: do not break the rules of mahjong. Switching waits with a post-riichi kan is chombo. That's not negotiable. I am not sure the best way to enforce it (unless you always ensure to record the game, in which case it will be clear), but you could mak...

Re: Alternative methods of enforcing Chombo
These are my (experimental) ideas for chombo: Incorrect win (including furiten): You have to expose your tiles so everyone can see, and pay 500 points to each player (no doubling for east), but then you can conceal them again and continue normally. Doing this too often may result in disqualification...
