Re:Any Non-'Beginner' books out there?

I\'ve searched a bunch.... the closest thing you can get if you don\'t speak japanese is to get one of the \"What would you discard\" books and just look at the answers.

Re:Jan Ryu Mon

Am I the only one who has come to hate Janryumon? It seems like the play on there is so completely random that winning comes down to a matter of pure luck.... At least on Tenhou I feel like my play actually has an effect on the game... Maybe I just suck at Janryumon or there is some secret strategy ...

Re:Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku: Reform without wasted draws

The reference is during Koizumi\'s campaign, his slogan was \"Reform without sanctuary,\" so what did they call the series? \"Reform without wasted draws.\" ^_^

Re:Dealer continuance & 5 sticks

I thought that reaching with a noten hand is against the rules :P but maybe there are situations when you would rather take the possible chonbo for it rather then let someone win with a sanbaiman (for example you see the other player has called like 4 tiles and that makes him/her a dora 8, in that ...

Re:My hand of the week

Nice steal! Lately Janryumon has pissed me off... it seems like the people on there play so frickin random.... but then again I can never concentrate on anything when i\'m at home which is probably why I do much much better on fightclub than janryumon.

Re:Dealer continuance & 5 sticks

Even if you\'re furiten though you still get tenpai credit. So if you\'re in this situation, you can reach and wait to tsumo. As long as you have the 2 yaku when you go out, you\'re fine.

Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku: Reform without wasted draws

Okay, I tried my hardest to keep silent on this, but after watching the second and third episode, I can no longer. Question: What do Koizumi, Bush, Margrate Thatcher, Kim Jong Ill, Colin Powel, and The Pope all have in common? Apparently it\'s MAHJONG! Anyone that finds any kind of joy in mahjong ne...

Re:Dealer continuance & 5 sticks

The point of this, though, is that if you\'re at 5 continuances and reach with nothing else, it\'s perfectly legal to wait for tsumo to complete your second yaku as long as it\'s a valid tenpai. I say valid, but I don\'t know any situation where i\'d want to reach on a prayer of a tsumo. I guess if ...

Re:Dealer continuance & 5 sticks

What I wonder though is if you reach and are aiming for tsumo, pass up on a ron and end in a draw, are you still credited for tenpai?

That situation is alot more likely I think. I`ve seen people pass up ron for tsumo a few times. I`ve even done it myself before.

Re:So, you have a 4 and 30 (pre-reach) hand. Reach?

You can also look at it this way. This is not every time, but normally when someone reaches, a defensive player would usually take apart their original hand to favor a safer tenpai. Even if you were to deal in, it \"usually\" isn`t that terrible of a hit. On the other hand, even defensive players ta...

Re:It's time for What Would You Discard! (July 11th)

I`d like to throw the 5-bam in this situation if it`s early in the hand. If it`s later in the hand and the 5 looks dangerous, I`d throw the 2. I`m a sucker for a good i-pei-ko.

Wow... go me for bumping an 8 month old topic... I need to check the dates more

Now you know... and knowing is half the battle.

Now all you have to decide is the next time you get it, are you willing to give up the yakuman chance and Ron off of it ^_^

You can buy the automatica table sets from this site. They have very good prices but the site is all in japanese and i\'m not sure about international shipping.
