Re: Reach Mahjong Ranking Badges Redesigned
Just a quick PING to see if this has gained any traction or if there is anything I can volunteer to do to push this along. It's all on Jenn's hands, I hadn't got any life sign of her since her 08 April post. I've e-mail her the procedure to use the new images on the 08 April, sent her further docum...

Re: Newbie introduction
Welcome aboard, Leon! Some great Riichi Mahjong resources where you can get help with scoring, etc. are: Bart's Japanese Mahjong Guide which is really comprehensive lots of groovy Japanese terms for all the cool things related to the game. Some video tutorials with scoring examples: How to Play Japa...

Re: Getting Japanese iTunes Store Exclusive iOS Mahjong Game
Janryumon is now free - it has been for a while. I think they may have charged for it a long time ago (I got it about a year ago and paid 99 cents for the full HD version which has now gone free). And yes, sadly 1st generation iPad and 1st-2nd generation iTouch devices are sadly not well supported b...

Getting Japanese iTunes Store Exclusive iOS Mahjong Games
Some Mahjong iOS games are only available in the Japan iTunes store. Many are free - and I don't have a Japanese credit card to register with iTunes Japan. But I've had success! I read a number of tutorials but these were the steps: 1. On your iOS device, go to Settings and log out of iTunes/AppStor...

Mini-Review of Mahjong from A to Zhú
Just before going away on vacation I received my copy of Mahjong from A to Zhú by our very own Scott D. Miller. I had heard a bit about it from Jenn Barr either on a blog post or on the Jong Cast (I can't remember which), but when Scott started to show up online in various Mahjong fora, he seemed ge...

Re: POLL: Sub-sub-forums
I'm voting No. We've got so little traffic as to make nesting of very little value. Over on RPG Geek we're roughly 500x the traffic level of RM Forums and we're only now thinking of sub-forums. The existing forum structure on RM Forums is pretty clean currently.

Re: Newbie introduction
Welcome new folks! I think Saki is responsible for a number of people in my hometown area wanting to get into Mahjong. The US translations of the Yakuza series has done its fair share as well!

Re: Mahjong at the Falls
Hi Bart,
The mat is really nice - it is heavy and so doesn't rotate easily. Rather than rotate chairs, I used a home-built wind indicator that I could just turn easily. The winds on the mat were, therefore, just for show (the tiles tended to obscure them anyway).

Mahjong at the Falls
I'm back from a 5-day trip to Niagra Falls for a gaming convention. It was a rough week - my native and beloved Boston was constantly on my mind. I ran two teaching slots each of the 5 days. My wife and I took either 2 new players (one table including Jenn and I) or 6 new players (Jenn and I anchori...

Re: Newbie introduction
Once I left Japan and moved to HK, I tried playing HK-style mahjong but didn't like it as much as Riichi. I've been starved for people to play with, and almost gave up, until a few months ago I found Janryumon for iPad, and now I've been playing it all the time. I love it! The design and features a...

Woot! Is there anything more you need, specifically, from me? I don't want to be the one to hold anything up, progress-wise.

Mahjong on G+
In an effort to try and promote our community, I found a couple of Mahjong related communities over on Google+. https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/103326342479471219059 https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/114649940291778607023 I posted a blurb and added link to the RM-Forums. My feeling is ...

Building the Wall - Counting Tile Stacks
Something I noticed when watching this YouTube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=qzcmCvOM2KY Two of the players, when building the wall, pull off 3 (or maybe 4?) stacks with each hand and stare, briefly, at what's left as if to ensure it contains the right number of stacks...
