Re:Wait Training (haha)

Oh, that is fun... and quite a good idea for two players to play with using real tiles while waiting for the others to join them at the table...

Re:Linguistics of Mahjong

Hi Pekepan, I agree, in the end we are only talking about learning to RECOGNIZE a few characters here, not the whole 1,945 Joyo Kanji list! 1-9 Coins and 1-9 Bamboo are self-explanatory (OK, so the 1-Bamboo needs to be explained). White Dragon likewise. Red Dragon is easy to remember... The \"Green\...

Re:Linguistics of Mahjong

What we (the foreign players in our 3-player-mj group in Hiroshima) tend to do is use Japanese terms for yaku (tanyo, pinfu) and for actions or events (pon, kan, riichi, ron, tsumo etc), winds, dragons and the dora bonus, but use English for the numbers and suit tiles (coins, bamboo, characters).

Re:3-handed Mahjong

Why do almost all versions never allow chows? Why are only two suits used in most variations as opposed to to having all three suits but allowing less draws before the game ends? The scoring seems to be different for tsumo and ron (on tenhou and hirohurl\'s website); tsumo receives only 3/4 the poi...

Re:Mahjong set + table

Thanks, Barticle, for the detailed account of your new mj set. I assumed the score sticks would be in one of the lower layers of the box. I guess omitting the score sticks is one way to keep the price down! As for books about the Japanese game, Eleanor Noss Whitney\'s \"A Mahjong Handbook\" is the b...

Re:Mahjong set + table

Hi Barticle, I just checked the set. Looks like a good deal. I like the metal case and the way they have packed the tiles. Like most sets sold in the UK, it has the numbers in the top right corner. Let us know what the tile quality is like when you get it. Thanks for voting me as \"the obvious choic...

Japanese Games Shop for Sale?

Hi folks, I haven\'t mentioned this anywhere else yet and am just testing the waters... I\'m getting increasingly busy these days and am THINKING about selling off my business website, http://Japanese-Games-Shop.com. It would be ideal for someone living in Japan who wants to take over a website that...

Re:Mahjong set + table

Hi Pekepan, Thank you for the order! I also received an enquiry about tiles for an electronic table... was that you by any chance? I have seen tiles for electronic tables, but I\'d be reluctant to supply them because I think there is a high likelihood of them being incompatible with the table... DH

Re:Saki and Riichi?

This is interesting info. I only became aware of Saki when a customer asked me about it. I\'m going to go and check out the Japanese manga. It sounds like a lot of people first heard of Saki when the anime came out (in English I guess). Is that right, or were people already into Saki manga translate...

Re: Saki MJ Sets...

Wow! Oh well, I don\'t have that type of money to blow on a MJ set, but that special red five was really appealing! I\'m going to assume that the 2.0set is limited edition as well? Financially I\'m a little tight, so I\'d like to be able to purchase it later when rent and everything clears up. Howe...
