Re: Riichi Rules Advice

Preference, indeed, or, like with most decisions in life, taking a position at random and then justifying that position with fabricated logic. We are merely human, after all. Though that is a philosophical/neurological debate better left for another time.

Re: Riichi Rules Advice

http://riichi-2013.ru/en/uchastnikam/reglament/ This is the ruleset developed by our friendly neighbours from mother Russia. Kuitan – ari – open tanyao is allowed. Aka – nashi – no red fives are used. Kuikae – ari – switching chi is allowed, but you can not discard the same tile you’ve opened on At...

Re: Scoring in Osaka 3-Player Mahjong

I played this kind of way in Osaka (or at least fairly similar). I don't have very fond memories of the game itself. We were originally going to play 4p after Watanabe's birthday, but then Endo fell asleep, and the remaining three of us went to play set at @home parlor near Shinsaibashi. The rules we...

Re: Janryumon kaimo for non-Japan players update!

Webmoney was always accepted from outside Japan. You just had to use a fake postal code/address from the internet. Source: I won a 300 people JRM league where the prize was 2000 webmoney (2000 JPY), and spent it promptly on Janryumon 2. It seemed fitting to spend the money won from the tool in the t...

Re: Riichi Rules Advice

zzo38, you are right, I am sorry. My analogy regarding chess and castling was a lot more logical and sane than the idea of the original post was. Let me correct with a different one: It's like holding a chess tournament, and asking the players if they would rather have their bishops move diagonally ...

Re: Riichi Rules Advice

How does bastardizing the rules help for your purpose? Ultimately, it is your users who should decide regardless of your personal standing, but most people I know who are any good at mahjong prefer open tan yao, as it is a primary part of its strategy. I don't see why even put this up to vote. It's ...

I understand there isn't much documentation in Spanish, but I recommend you (or your group) read this guide:

Re: Janryumon's update to Shin JRM as of earlier this week

Serves it well anyway. Why pay 150JPY per game for that crap server when you can have unlimited tenhou or ronron for 525JPY a month. (Says number 13 in JRM Tonpuusen ranking)

Re: WWYD 2013/01/21

Othar than Hatsu... Maybe 6p to peek at hon itsu/chii toi/chanta?

The points being flat, I would rather just discard Hatsu in tenari-mode to increase the chances of pinfu even by a little. We have just drawn a key tile for that, after all.

Re: WWYD 2012/12/31

I play far too aggressively for my own good, so I'd probably throw away 1-crak hoping to avoid ippatsu and then continue developing my hand, but the best play is throwing away 5-dot and defending. also, I don't know if this question will be answered or seen because this is an older WWYD, but why is...

Re: WWYD 2012/12/31

Woah, Jenn replying to the thread! Hi, there. As a side note, perhaps it is the part of me that plays tenhou too much instead of rules that over-reward 1st places, but whenever I think of East only, I am always more tempted towards not dealing into a riichi while shanten (thus making a comeback almo...

Re: WWYD 2012/12/31

Whether it is from the defensive or offensive side of the spectrum: 5-dot As far as tile efficiency goes, ryanmen-kotei (two-sided-wait fixation) is the right procedure, this being 5-dot (Arguably, 9m might be better from a tile efficiency point of view, but given my next point, you'll have to deal ...

Still got nothing on my not so uncommon streaks of 30-50 games!

Re: I just got a new non-yakuman title in Janryumon!

Naturally, your variance had to end at some point. But 10 streak games aren't uncommon and you will eventually catch another one. Next one, perhaps, 20 (assuming that you get better at last place avoidance by then, too).

I still have the draft in the blog. I am a lazy mf'er.

I did tell you to poke me about it!
