Re: WRCR rules: The good, the bad, and the [bleep]

Yaku list The spacing of Japanese names is quite tricky, since it doesn't exist in Japanese. But yes, it lacks standardisation. The good news is I regard this as an edition error, so it should hopefully be corrected before the next revision. For example, when the WRC will have a logo I'm pretty sur...

Re: pon, chi, or pass?

Yep. You'd obliterate your handshape, which makes it harder to get to tenpai. You want to call on a 4-7, or 9.

Yes, the practice of sekinin barai regarding rinshan kaihou is rather rare these days.

Re: Question about ryuuiisou

I could have scored it recently:

But no, I made a poor life choice. Going jigoku tanki, instead of furiten ryanmen-tanki. Just another case to be butthurt over - for a long time.

Damaten tanyao + ryanpeikou, with kanchan (or tanki). This is already mangan.

Assuming humans as a species live that long. (Append 1-9 anywhere on that date/time string)

Re: another gameplay question

Now I ask you, If you do not already have a yaku in your hand, should you call riichi with very few tiles remaining (and risk the 1000pts), or, do you just hope that you can tsumo (CSD), and if you don't, just settle for the draw (like I did), and maybe get some points for being tenpai. Your points...

You can compare stats between 3p and 4p. Of course, the most stark difference is the dora frequency, by which 3p naturally nearly doubles 4p by virtue of "kita" (north dora).

About those MJ video games

http://arcturus.su/wiki/Japanese_mahjong#Video_games As much as I want to expand on that section, I am very much not qualified to do so. Shame on me to not even have played Mahjong Fight Club. What am I looking for? Just a short history on mahjong video games. Some recent stuff may help too, althoug...

Re: Nationality: From local pride to the slippery slope...

The team tournament idea. For now, that's just a pipedream. The quota problem for team tournaments only exist for countries (like Japan **cough**), that have plenty of players to choose from. True, but how would you qualify players outside the organization? Typically, they don't play in the organiza...

Re: Nationality: From local pride to the slippery slope...

A Team Tournament format - if interest in that ever grows - would solve the quota problem, due to a fixed number of people playing per team. Though, I'd have to wonder if any interest in that exists at all. Going back to the individual system and fairness to qualification. That leaves the question o...
