\"Discard the third tile from your left, please!\"
@Gg: You can use it for 4 or 3 player style, with no dummy.

@Robert - Yep! They add up your points. @Gg - Ah the atmosphere! Lotsa tables whirring, synthesized table voices (sexy girl, gruff man etc) crying out when you stick your riichi tenbou in the riichi socket in front of you, \"Riichi da yo!\" and (when your opponent goes riichi after you) \"Okake riic...

Re:The Ultimate Mahjong Table?
Tables that \"keep score\" use metal-ended scoring sticks. The cool thing about those tables is that you can press a button to check on how the other players\' scores are doing...

The Ultimate Mahjong Table?
Mechanical tables have two sets of mahjong tiles, one in play and one in the guts of the machine. When you finish a game you push a button and the centre of the table opens. You push all your tiles in, press a button and the table begins to shuffle and arrange those tiles while delivering a second s...

Re:Table cloth
...I understand that a small "lip" around the edge of the table helps when stacking the wall. That\'s right. The playing mats, the old-style kotatsu and mahjong tables all have raised edges to help with wall building and hand straightening (if you see what I mean) etc. I have a tendency to push my ...

Re:The Best 3 Player Rules Set
Hi Gg,
The scoring in three-player is much easier than standard rules scoring. You can do it on the fingers of one one hand:

I cut my mahjong teeth on 3player mj. I\'d be interested to hear how you get on with it.
Best wishes,

Re:Table cloth
For games played at home the so called \"JUNK mat\" has become the most popular choice. The material is made of SBR neoprene, which is the stuff that is used to make wetsuits. SBR = a synthetic copolymer composed of styrene and butadiene. If you smoke while playing - or if you push tiles out with su...

Re:3-player riichi question
yes, "declaring dora" means putting north tiles to the side to act as doras, it interrupts the go-around, you can\'t get ippatsu, you can\'t get renhou/chiho, and you can\'t declare 9 tile abortive draw if someone has declared dora. I checked with our Japanese players and the consensus was that: 1....

Re:3-player riichi question
Oh yes! I got hit with Kokushimuso (from a ko player, thank goodness) when I laid out my North dollar in a game on Friday night, quite early in too. The dora-declaration/ippatsu question is an interesting one. I\'m not sure that it has occurred in all the years I\'ve played 3pmj... Thanks for the in...

Perfect answers to your questions from Chalwa and Shirluban. Thank you. Every time i think that i know it all, and can play without any doubts something happens:) It\'s just a great game. Don\'t you feel that someone is "getting at you" sometimes! I know I did. Yep, it\'s a great game in all its sub...

Re:unwinable riichi
Well, according to the rules we play by, a tenpai hand with all possible finishing tiles discarded/revealed does not qualify for a tenpai reward in games that end with no winner, but nor is it penalized (i.e. no chombo).

Re:Dealer continuance & 5 sticks
Nice clarification of han/yaku.
I\'ve never seen anybody go riichi in ryanshi just on a gamble of getting a lucky second han from a tsumo/ippatsu/etc... Is it legal? Is it sane?
I ask because it wouldn\'t be accepted in our 3-player game (where we elevate to ryanshi on the fourth...)...

Re:Jenn's Book
Hi Jenn, I finally got around to buying your book! It arrived last Friday. Very enjoyable read (nice style) and I\'ve learned quite a bit about Reach Mahjong (speaking as someone who plays Hiroshima style 3player mj much of the time...). Anyway, I\'m going to write a review and post Amazon links to ...
