Re:3-handed Mahjong
The scoring seems to be different for tsumo and ron (on tenhou and hirohurl\'s website); tsumo receives only 3/4 the points that a ron does. Can that be corrected or is there a reason for it? Under Mahjong Fight Club rules, tsumo receives full value; the other two players pay half the value each re...

Re:Rules & Questioning
I think I can provide a general rule of thumb that I think holds true for most yaku combinations: Say meeting the conditions for yaku A requires you also meet the conditions for yaku B. (For example, A = Honrootoo and B = Toitoihoo, or A = Junchanta and B = Chanta.) (Note: In some cases, such as Hon...

Re:Query re rules
For games that do have a starting point amount, some play with the \"buttobi\" rule, where the game immediately ends if anybody\'s score goes into the negative. Some play so that the buttobi rule takes effect when someone has exactly 0 points at the end of a hand, too. (In the latter variation, some...

Re:Questions about the
To my understanding, as a general rule of thumb, Toudai-shiki\'s \"official\" rules are merely those that HAVE to be used no matter the house rules. While kazoe-yakuman, ippatsu, ura-dora, kan-dora, nagashi-mangan, etc. are the norm, Toudai-shiki allows playing without them, hence the reason they\'r...

Re:What's been scanlated/subbed?
Thanks for the link, AnimeCrazy\'s translation looks to be MUCH better than Crunchyroll\'s incompetent job.

Re:What's been scanlated/subbed?
Saki has been subbed up through episode 14 as of right now. 15 has been subbed, too, but it seems you need a premium subscription to watch it before the release in a couple days. http://www.crunchyroll.com/library/Saki [Edit: The AnimeCrazy sub of Saki is a MUCH better translation, as far as I\'ve s...

Re:Oh... wait.
And upon further investigation, I found a clarification on the official MFC website: Under Fight Club rules, a wait that would require a 5th copy of a tile counts as tenpai, BUT if all four copies of all the tiles in your wait have been revealed or are in your hand, you are not allowed to Reach on s...

Re:Oh... wait.
Well, I think I found at least one \"official\" answer to this. I was just playing Fight Club and had the following hand: 4-bam 5-bam 8-bam 8-bam Pon: 6-bam 6-bam 6-bam Chi: 4-bam 5-bam 6-bam Pon: green-dra green-dra green-dra The game declared me as tenpai waiting for 3-bam 6-bam with a warning tha...

Re:Red fives - 3 or 4 or 0?
When playing on the computer, I prefer 4, since I like the reduced homogeneity (a 5-dot wait is better than a 5-bam wait, and so on). For playing in real life, I\'ll usually go with 0, since most Mahjong sets I see don\'t have red 5\'s, and I can\'t be bothered to look for a set with red 5\'s when I...

Re:Oh... wait.
I\'ve actually encountered a similar situation on Mahjong Fight Club, when I had a 1199 shanpon wait, but the other two of each tile had already been discarded, making it impossible for me to complete my hand. The game still told me I was tenpai (albeit with two warnings, one for each tile that was ...

Re:Hey hey just a shout out. & 'kyushukyuhai'
I\'d just like to note that the Japanese \"yaochuupai\" literally translates to \"1 9 tiles\", but refers to the set consisting of 1, 9, and honor tiles. The Japanese term for just the 1 and 9 tiles is \"routouhai\". I usually see people use \"terminals\" as an equivalent to yaochuupai.

Re:Hey hey just a shout out. & 'kyushukyuhai'
just 9? i thought there was some other bit about non connecting sets or something like that. You\'re probably thinking of Shisanputa, which is a special hand that\'s very rarely allowed in Reach as a table rule. In order to claim it, the player\'s 14-tile hand on his/her first draw must meet the fo...

Re:Rules for start
If you just want an easy-to-learn rule set to start with, I recommend Taiwanese (and not just because that was what I started with). There\'s no minimum hand point count needed to win, so you don\'t have any pressure to memorize the entire hand point list, plus the hand point to score conversion is ...
Re:WWYD 5/30
If it\'s early in the hand, I\'d discard the 1-dot to try for tanyao and renchan. (In the unlikely event that I immediately draw several man tiles in a row, I\'d go for a chin\'iisoo instead; 2-dot will be next to go, then the red-dot and finally the two 6-bam, if I keep drawing man tiles.) If it\'s...
