Re: playstyles
Maybe so but im asking for your personal thoughts how do u approach the situations. What decision are you making? Mahjong is constantly about making decisions. * What tiles do I discard? * Which yaku to shoot for? * Do you riichi or not? * Which rule can I take advantage of? * Which rule can work a...

Re: abortive games/ draws
http://tenhou.net/0/?log=2013041010gm-0009-7447-199d05f9&tw=1&ts=8 Looking at this. In hindsight, my calling of riichi to force suucha riichi (4-riichi) was a mistake. However, I gave in to the pressure of being the lone person facing 3-riichi simultaneously. Although, if I had not done that, I woul...

Re: playstyles
Luck, or no luck.
At the end of the day, it's your decision making, that determines the game for you. Sure, you are given the tiles that are dealt to you - both in the start hand and your draws. in the end, it's how you handle the situation, that the game offers you.

Re: (Half)Flush and your discards
At the very least, you discard one suit - for as long as possible. If you run out of these, then you can probably sacrifice one honor tile or two, before discarding the other suit. But yea, if you decide to go Honitsu or Chinitsu, then it comes with the territory. Your discards will spell it very co...

Re: A question on winning?
That should've been fine. Either way, even if it weren't south round, your yaku would be toitoi and you weren't furiten on either of your outs. It's a problem with the client. Yea, what Shinkii here said. The Yaku is Toitoi. Y'should be able to win off the 9-man. Either the client was broken, or yo...

Kill isolated tiles first. Just get to tenpai ASAP.

Re: A question about tenpai?
http://arcturus.su/wiki/Tenpai You look at that hand, and ask yourself: What do I need to complete that hand? If you don't know what a complete hand is, you made one in your post. become tenpai The hand doesn't become tenpai. It stays at tenpai; your original hand was at tenpai. However, the wait ch...

Re: [2013.09.24] Player Quality
I will venture a VERY UNPOPULAR opinion when it comes to the language barriers... I think we should be encouraging European players to use the Japanese calls and yaku. There are several sets of English translations knocking around out there to muddy the waters when we use English, while there is on...

Re: Alternative methods of enforcing Chombo
I think it's pointless to fret over the details of chombo. It's not like any tournament in America will determine "the best" for years to come. Pick something logical, and enforce it uniformly. Hence, there's the chance to experiment on a few little things, via trial and error to try some ideas. I ...

Re: WWYD 2013-08-26
8-dot Kill it now. Kill it with fire. Sucks that it's an isolated 8-pin dora, but it has to go or else it may become more of a liability, rather than a benefit. Plus, there's already two red dora in the hand fitting rather nicely, so losing 1 dora can be affordable. As an alternative, scrap the 4-ma...

Re: Pon and position of stolen tile
Yup. Due to the Furiten rule, it is important to keep track of who discarded what tile -- which cannot be masked by claimed tiles. Therefore, it's necessary to have those particular arrangements. When you do encounter Furiten, you'll learn quickly how dicey that situation will be.

Re: WWYD 2013-07-29
2-dot then later 3-dot Might as well split these. One of the 2-pin is out. When developing chii toitsu, I tend to look for already discarded tiles and proceed to follow up. Once the 3-pin is discarded. The 2-pin may not be so useful either. Another thing to note, a 1-pin is in the discards as well. ...

Japanese Mahjong Wiki
Well, for the game, we have ourselves a Wiki: http://arcturus.su/wiki/Main_Page Personally, I've been doing a lot of stuff in there, from formatting to content generation. If you can help out in there, feel free to register and participate. I'd say: it's been quite a bit of fun dumping whatever I kn...
