Re: Discussion regarding rule sets based around Riichi and M
If anybody is interested in the responses on BGG I can copy them to this site if requested. Or just give the link, if the forum is public. (I looked for it, but I still haven't found what I'm looking for). Link -> http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/642112/discussion-regarding-choice-of-rule-set-fo...

Re: Discussion regarding rule sets based around Riichi and M
I wrote about ZJ on BGG. I don't think you'll find too many fans of it here. After all, look at the top of this page for the site's name. My impression is that folks here love riichi. Some to the point of being blind to its deficiencies. Others are well aware of them, but resigned to them, as attemp...

Re: Rules for start
but I am reluctant to paying points because someone else deals in I understand that to some degree. First, it's what you're used to. But from another angle, you didn't win the hand, so some minimal penalty seems in order. With ZJ 3.3, that penalty is now only 25 points, made up by winning a hand wi...

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games
What! a game called "World Series of Mahjong" don't use World Series of Mahjong rules?!?! What a world, huh? A friend of mine bought the pro version believing the name. Perhaps the World Series of Mahjong legal team should look at enforcing their trademark, if they have one... or perhaps at collect...

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games
There seems to be a lot of mahjong solitaire  but I've found a Hong Kong mahjong Android app already. I'll see what else is out there... I still have a dumb phone (or whatever you call something that isn't a "smart phone")! No mahjong games on there, although there are a lot of mahjong game p...

Re: Rules for start
WSoM/ZJ was created by a riichi player, statistician, and an avid game player. It removes the complexity and over-emphasis on defense of riichi, but still allows defensive play. The player who discards someone's big winner pays dearly. Neither does it have the high minimum score of MCR - going out w...

Re: Game Report
Except for (I think) December, we've had monthly sessions since last July. This was the largest session by far.
I plan to keep the monthly schedule for the time being, but I hope to have more frequent games in the near future.

1-crak Not exactly related to riichi style, but I'm just so tickled about a tiny bit of news. I have scheduled a mahjong game on February 5 to celebrate the Chinese New Year. My wife and I have taught about 100 local people to play mahjong (more specifically Zung Jung style), and so far 25 people ha...

November 7 Game Report
I hosted a Zung Jung session yesterday. 12 people attended and played: 3 beginners, 4 people who had played once or twice before, and 5 with many hands of play. There were several scores of 40 points or more, which made for exciting play and scoring. We played for four hours, and everyone had a grea...

Re: Combining MCR and Riichi (a thought experiment)
I recently read that Alan Kwan was a Riichi player when he started on Zung Jung. The additive system seems to also have been adopted by MCR. Riichi also figured into the ZJ scoring. Two Double Runs does not appear in MCR, for instance.
