Re: Mahjong rules - sites for learning

I would add the Mahjong Wiki at http://mahjong.wikidot.com/ as a very good resource for rules and scoring on several styles. It also has articles and links to more resources.

Since it's a wiki, anyone (even you) can create an account and add more content.

I don't. But I do know that on the Chinese jokers, they use "100 connections" like so: 百搭

Re: Zung Jung / WSOM rules

Thank you for posting these. I'm already a big fan of Zung Jung. As it happens, I was reading some of the old corners on the ZJ site and learned that Alan Kwan was a fan of riichi when he started the Zung Jung effort.

Thank you for the tip, Referee. What is "it" in your case?

Re: Pinfu Details

Thank you very much for the explanation so far. I understand, but still don't like the language. The one source of somewhat rigorous rules I've so far found in English, the EMA rules, states that single wait is waiting to finish the pair. That may be the case, but I'd suggest that it then has a bad ...

Pinfu Details

I'm gearing up for my first riichi session this weekend, and I have a question about pinfu. Gamedesign says "must be waiting two tiles", mahjong.wikidot.com says "two-sided wait", as does mahjongclub.com; while EMA Riichi rules say "winning tile is required to finish a chow with a two-sided wait", a...

You may want to put a Creative Commons license on the document. See http://creativecommons.org/ . It works with documents as well as code. As for format, I suggest you post the document in PDF format. I don't know what size you're considering, but when I made my own cards, I printed on pre-perforate...

Re: Making Mahjong Card Game

If you're doing all that, you might as well add 8 Jokers for American style. I hear it's pretty popular over here. Sure, name them and send me a link for photos, I'll add to the list. Tom Sloper has pictures of a few jokers here: http://www.sloperama.com/mjfaq/mjfaq7t.htm That first one is the curr...

Also, many of the Chinese sets I've seen for sale (on eBay) have 4 Chinese jokers (100 uses), FWIW.

Where did everyone go?

It's been over a week with nothing new on the front page. We all appreciate the efforts of our editors, but a note about WSoM would be nice (and help to keep us coming back) even if it says nothing but "Whew. We're pooped. More later."

Re: Riichi vs. Zung Jung

In my own experience with Zung Jung, inexperienced players start by getting chicken hands (which usually annoys me quite a bit), see a couple 50 point hands, and realize they cannot win - it helps if you have the new players keep score. Very quickly, the new players begin to attempt impossibly diffi...
