Re:Greetings from a newbie with questions :)

One of the most common reasons you can\'t win when you steal is that you are real close to tanyao (a hand that only uses 2-8 number tiles of any suit, no honor tiles) but you have one pesky one or nine in your hand. If you pon a white-dra green-dra red-dra or your wind or the round wind, thats an ob...

Re:Life in Japan

Hey, I\'m studying abroad here for a year so I can\'t say I\'m here pernamently, but I can still tell you that I intend on coming back here many times after my program ends! I\'d say the public transportation is a blessing to me, not having to deal with driving, gas prices, car insurance, rush hour,...

Re:gambling?

I\'m not too sure on the specifics of the rates that are normally imposed in parlors, so i\'m sure someone can explain more; one of the most common rates is \"Ten-go\" which is 1000 points costing 50 yen, and a cheaper alternative is \"Ten-san\" which is 1000 points for 30 yen. Usually at the end of...

Re:What?

Hmmm, well in my dorm, our house rules are that in draws on east round, dealer always rotates, and on south round, if its a draw and dealer is tenpai, then he stays dealer. I think it is to give people in 3rd and 4th place a chance to win some more hands before the last game. either way, having deal...

Update: Hey everyone, looks like this book is too off-the-wall to ever be licensed in America or Europe! So I\'ll continue working on it!

Re:Official Documented Rules in English?

For my dorm\'s house rules on Pun-ri (Open Reach): -Can be furiten, tsumo only if so -Counts as one yaku (2 total for reach and open) if tsumo (3) or ron by a reached player -Yakuman if ron by a unreached player This is mostly to show off one\'s luck or to break people\'s own hands and keep tiles th...

Re:Do You Believe in "Nagare"?

Haha I believe in it, but its more like I believe that luck can get and does get passed around depending on what happens during a game. Say you give away a big hand and from then on your draws are bad and the other players restrict your hand by either reaching or opening their hands quickly. This is...

Re:Legend of Koizumi Mudazumo naki Kaikaku àÀÅâ!M9i

Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice! I think for the time being I shall cater to you guys, the mahjong crew; this way, I can at least churn out the translation quicker :D If I have time, I would also like to have it translated for a universal audience, but I think thats wishful thinking. I\'l...

Re:Legend of Koizumi Mudazumo naki Kaikaku àÀÅâ!M9i

Well there are english terms for the hands like flat hand for pinfu and all simples for tanyao and thirteen unique orphans for kokushi, which i know, sound pretty watered down haha

Legend of Koizumi Mudazumo naki Kaikaku àÀÅâ!M9i

Hey everyone! Right now a couple of my friends and I are scantillating the Legend of Koizumi; I\'ll be posting updates here as we go. So far, we\'ve already scanned the entire first book and have began translating. For my part, the mahjong terminology, I would like to ask for your input, on things s...
