Thanks! I'd appreciate your perspective.
No rush - I'll be hammering away at the challenges for a while as yet and trying to come up with helpful tips.

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games
It's funny that the Yakuman trophy is the most commonly obtained one! I've made them several ways now using various abilities. I've been working through the challenges but it's tough with all the superpower madness (and always starting with a handicap on your passives). I'm writing a game guide of c...

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games
Amazingly another Japanese PS4 mahjong game released recently! つーじゃんせる!! ( Two Jong Cell ) was released by Arc System Works (who previously released Tottemo E Mahjong ). It has six anime girl characters, each with three passive abilities that unlock during play and three active abilities that can be...

Re: My hand of the week
Hello Tommie. Welcome to the forum and to mahjong too. :) I wonder if the app uses Mahjong Competition Rules. In MCR you can get "Lesser Honours & Knitted Tiles" (12 points) for having any combination of red/white/green dragons, E/S/W/N winds, 1/4/7 from one suit, 2/5/8 from another suit and 3/6/9 f...

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games
Saw that, and Like a Dragon 8 looks cool. I have Ishin imported, got it a long time ago. But then the combat system did not click for me. Maybe I should give it a try once more, the setting was very cool. I really quite enjoyed Ishin on import. I could be tempted to double-dip with this English rel...

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games
(I've moved the PS4 list here to free up space on the original posts - had to remove some links though :?) Sony Playstation 4 The PS4 is region-free so Japanese games will run on US/Euro consoles. The console supports multiple user profiles and you can switch between them easily. Registering an acc...

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games
Lots of news from RGG Summit 2022 for the Yakuza series, although they seem to have fully transitioned to the Like a Dragon name now for foreign markets. The teaser trailer for Like a Dragon 8 (2024) shows recent protagonist Ichiban paired with original protag Kiryu (with a weird greying host-style ...

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games
(I've moved the PS2 and PSP lists here to free up space on the original posts) Sony Playstation 2 The PS2 is region-locked so you can't play games from Japan on a standard European or American console (which is a shame as there were loads of mahjong titles for the PS2). * Yakuza 2 [9/08] - English ...

Re: Mahjong at the movies?
In the new video-game Stray (2022) you play as a cat in a future city of humanoid robots.
At one point you can find a couple of them playing mahjong.
It doesn't end well when you try to join in - but at least you get a trophy.

A mahjong parlour in the point-and-click video-game, Encodya. (2021) It's just scenery - you cannot enter.
The setting is a cyberpunk "Neo Berlin" (cf. Akira's "Neo Tokyo") so yes, that is the Brandenburg Gate (and a flying car) in the background.

Re: what are those tiles?
Hi and welcome. These are jokers, likely from some sort of Chinese set.
The Chinese characters mean "[a] hundred uses" - each joker can be used as a wildcard to function as any tile you choose.
