I ran across this today. Any idea what it is or how to play the game? Looks like it was based off of something in the Kaiji manga.

I like the money with Furakawa\'s (sp?) art.

I think the idea is similar to craps or sic bo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sic_bo

It\'s Chinchirorin, you can also see Akagi playing.

FUKUMOTO Nobuyuki

Chin-chi-ro-rin is a real dice game that used to be popular in post-war japan and is still very popular in gambling circles. It\'s basically the same thing as cee-lo, although the variant used in Kaiji is irregular.

Has anyone tried the Kaiji DS game? I played it a bit, but unfortunately it\'s way too hard to be fun.

I believe in the Akagi anime he is playing Cho-han:

If you´re interested in Chinchirorin you might like to know that there´s a playable minigame in the Japanese PS3 game Ryu ga Gotoku: Kenzan!

Although it´s an anachronism with the 17th century setting (!) it also has a full Reach Mahjong minigame with basic options (1/2 rounds and optional kuitan, red fives and ryan han shibari).

You can also play Koi Koi with Hanafuda - Japanese flower cards. If you thought Mahjong was mysterious when you first saw it, that´s nothing compared to this! It´s really quite simple once you know the rules though.

Oh and there´s Cho Han and Shogi too! But bear in mind that they´re all in the context of an action game so you have to play through a story and explore a city to find them. :)

I believe the same minigames are all available in Ryu ga Gotoku 3, along with Oicho Kabu which is like blackjack played with Hanafuda.

From the japanese instructions it appears to be something like either:

1. a 3-dice craps (as others have suggested)
or 2. similar to yahtzee
