Helloooo everyone. Just registered my account so just shouting out.
Missed my sunday cycling session and played some ron2 instead. unfortunately i woke up too late for the tourney as well. Gosh i really do miss playing. Looks like it\'s time to break out the table (or keyboard) again.
Now just so that this post is not totally redundant,
what\'s the criteria for \'kyushukyuhai\'?

You have to have at least nine of the Thirteen Orphans.

Not really 9 from Kokushimuso, because saying it like that it will be ok to have 8 different terminal and honour tiles and one of them in duplicate, which is NOT allowing kyushukyuhai.
So for example: red-dra white-dra green-dra :east :north :south :west 1-dot 1-dot 2-bam 7-bam 6-crak 8-crak 8-crak
will not give you kyushukyuhai.
To have it you Have to have 9 different terminal and honour tiles. So something like that:
red-dra white-dra green-dra :east :north :south :west 1-dot 9-dot 2-bam 3-bam 5-bam 5-crak 6-crak
There are no additional restrictions to it.

To be honest i don\'t really understand why people even call kyuushuu if i have 9 different terminals and honors i think it\'s worth walking the tightrope and going for kokushi, but thats just me i guess :P

I think you\'re thinking of the "13 Towers" (jyuu-san putou) or something like that. That\'s actually a winning hand, still exists in the CO rules, but in the Riichi rules it has to be on the deal and it isn\'t used very often anymore.
9-Tiles, 9-Types (Kyuu-shu-Kyuu-hai) just has to have 9 DIFFERENT terminals in your hand on your first draw before anyone has chow, pon or quadded any tiles.
There are no additional restrictions to it.
Don\'t forget there can\'t be any chow or pon!!

I don\'t know a lot of the terms, so are we talking about the optional nagare (redeal) if you are holding 9 different terminals and honors that you have to declare before anybody discards or picks tiles from the wall?

Yes, we are talking about the \"why are you being such a wuss and not going for the Thirteen Orphans\" redeal.

No quite .. you missed the restriction. As Jenn said ...
if you are holding 9 different terminals and honors
Then on
your turn you may declare it after you have drawn your FIRST tile providing nobody has called and melded a tile set (chi, pon, kong).
The other players are allowed to pick and discard from the wall but it
has to be made in your turn before anyone claims a discard
FYI the only place I have seen it recorded in English is in the Toudai Shiki rules (Tokyo University Rules - One of the Big Three Pro Associations):
When a player is dealt nine DIFFERENT ends, he may declare a drawn game at his FIRST turn AFTER drawing a tile. (The tile may count as one of the nine ends.)
It does not occur in the EMA Riichi ruleset by comparison.

Right, I forgot to add that it have to be uninterupted go-around.
But it is in EMA rules: 3.4.3 (at page 13):
\"A player who after his first draw in the uninterrupted first go-around has at least nine different terminals and honours may declare an abortive draw.\"

You\'re probably thinking of Shisanputa, which is a special hand that\'s very rarely allowed in Reach as a table rule. In order to claim it, the player\'s 14-tile hand on his/her first draw must meet the following criteria:
1. Exactly one pair; the other 12 tiles all have to be distinct.
2. Any two tiles in the same suit, besides the two used to form the pair, must be at least three numbers apart. For example, if you have a 5-dot, you can\'t have any of these: 3-dot 4-dot 6-dot 7-dot
Kyushukyuhai, on the other hand, just requires nine different terminals in the 14 tiles on the first draw.

There are only six different terminals in the mahjong set. Three different ones, and three different nines. \"Terminal\" means \"end of the line\"...

I looked in the glossary on this website and I see where you guys are coming up with this terminology.
Forget I said anything.
