Hello Ronki........and welcome to the forum.
In response to your 2nd question, what I like about riichi mahjong, it would be easier to tell you what I wasn't too fond of in other styles of mahjong which led me to choose Japanese, and stay with it.
If you don't mind a long story, http://reachmahjong.com/en/forum/viewto ... =5&t=53313

As far as which games I most often play, I've narrowed it down to just a few.
On Android and IOS, it's Pro Mahjong Kiwame: http://reachmahjong.com/en/forum/viewto ... 18&t=53059
On the computer, it's Mahjong Tensei: http://reachmahjong.com/en/forum/viewto ... 418#p58804
This one I play on level 3, the hardest, which brings me back down to earth whenever I start to think I know everything. It's somewhat more difficult to win, but that's one of the things I enjoy about riichi mahjong, having to think more about your hand and strategy, in addition to the game going on auto-pilot when you call riichi.
The final way I play are weekly live games with people I have taught and converted to Riichi from the Chinese game.
As for Tenho, if you are referring to Tenhou Online, I believe most everyone here are quite familiar with the site (since I am too and I'm usually the last to find out about these things).
If you need or want more info, we are friendly group here and very willing to help....and make people happy.

Thank you, or2az!

Hello Ronki, I'm Ignatius, from Spain. I learned about mahjong's existence thanks to 龍が如く games, which are known in Europe and America as "Yakuza".

I study japanese (I've passed the 日本語能力試験 3/JLPT 3 six months ago or so).

I got really hooked by the game thanks to anime like アカギ/Akagi and 咲-Saki.

I'm by no means a good player, but I do enjoy the game a lot.

I usually play Mahjong Tensei/麻雀天聖, and Mahjong Tengokuhai/麻雀天極牌 in Android, and of course Tenhou on PC. But I don't play Tenhou too much...

I have 麻雀ドリームクラブ/Mahjong Dream Club for PS3.

Also I bought on Steam two Mahjong games when they were on offer. Mahjong Pretty Girls Battle (and the Schoolgirl Edition). Not bad, but nothing impressive either, those games are just decent, at best. I paid 3 euro for both of them. And I do believe asking 15 euro for each of them, which is by the way the usual price, is asking for too much. Better wait for an offer.

I haven't been here in a while... good to see people still post.

I knew about mahjong from Chinese movies and I wanted to try playing it, but I could only find games which were riichi mahjong at the time so I learned to play that.

I like the yaku system of riichi mahjong because I find it easier than trying to remember all the scoring elements of other versions.

I actually have a lot of mahjong games. I mostly play Pro Mahjong Kiwame Next, Saikyo no Mahjong 3D, Usagi Yasei no Touhai, Touhou Unreal Mahjong and Kidou Gekidan Haro Ichiza Gundam Mahjong. I also have Mahjong Pretty Girls Battle.

I know about Tenhou but I'm actually afraid to play against real people.

Yoroshiku Ronki. :)

I discovered riichi mahjong from the Ryuu ga Gotoku games too, specifically Yakuza 2. The rules were not fully explained there so the game felt especially mysterious!

Although I have not played other versions, I have read about many other mahjong rule-sets from other countries and I just prefer the modern Japanese rules.

For convenience at home I would probably play on my PS4 with Simple Series G4U Vol. 1 The Mahjong or maybe Tottemo E-Mahjong Plus.

I do not play on computer but I have a lot of DS, PSP and PS3 mahjong games. Some of my favourites are Akagi (DS), Mukoubuchi (DS), Akko de Pon (DS) and Mahjong Fight Club (Maajan Kakutou Kurabu).

Hello and welcome!

I've discovered mahjong from an old PC game by Berrie Bloem, using Chinese Classical rules.
I've later switched to Riichi rules thanks to Tom Sloper's game "Shanghai Second Dynasty".

I must admit I rarely play nowadays, but I'm still quite active in the mahjong world.

You can see that on each post: under the avatar, the "contact" line should show the Skype or WLM logo if the user has set his Skype ID in his profile.

Hi Ronki, I'm Iapetus from Finland.

I learned of mahjong through manga. First Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku, then Saki, then Akagi, and so on.

At this point, "麻雀って楽しいよね" is pretty much an axiom in my life. But some reasons to me falling in love with the game: it never gets old. There's always a new, interesting situation to adapt to. And I can keep getting better, bit by bit by bit.

I mostly play on Tenhou.net. I'm currently ranked 6-dan.

Your timing is good, because recently, an international channel was created on the Osamuko mahjong Discord server. You can speak in English or Japanese. You can find the channel here: https://discord.gg/FPNnN4t

I can be sitting in 4th place in a tournament game and still smile about it. Even at times when I feel like hating the game, I come back for more.
ronki315 wrote:2, What thing of riichi mahjong do you like?
It's a crazy game, where results can happen that defies logic. Now, it's even better playing the game, with people I like. So far, I'm happy to be in a mahjong club (online and offline) full of such people.
ronki315 wrote:3, What mahjong game do you often play? And do you know mahjong game, Tenho?
Tenhou.net. Yes, I have played over 4000+ games and scored 27 yakuman. Feels good. I have also expanded into Sega Mahjong. However, I haven't played there in a couple months. I should go back to it.
