Thanks for the welcome!!

I have learned a little about Filipino mahjong, but it's funny; the rules actually differ within the Philippines depending on the region (at least according to my Filipino friends), so in a company/group of people from different parts of the country it's hard to find 4 people who are willing to play by the same rules! :-)

As for Janryumon and GREE, it's just a way for them to sell the in-app coins better (I think because GREE manages more than 1 game). Either way, I'm loving the free spin every day; I've already won 2 1-day passes! :-)

I was actually on this website a year or two ago (not under this name; as "July" or something like that). I'm only just coming back to the game, so I've been kind of depressed about how rusty I am.

Wanted to learn mahjong since bingeing on HK movies a few years back. Recently been deep into anime/manga; Saki hooked me, my wife, and our housemate, and I was tasked with figuring out how to play and teaching the others. Hoping to get my skills to an acceptable level by the time of the Anime Central tournament; would love to find people in the city proper down for playing at a bar or coffeeshop.

Welcome new folks! I think Saki is responsible for a number of people in my hometown area wanting to get into Mahjong. The US translations of the Yakuza series has done its fair share as well!

Well for the longest time ive been trying to find a forum to get some advice and help from and i beieve ive found one i hope to learn and become greater at mahjong
my name is leon im from des moines and im a 17 year old student, i started off playing as a hobby after seeing the 3 mahjong animes akagi, the legendary gambler tetsuya, and saki. now i hope to venture off further into the world and hopefully one day be able to compete. i am still currently learning the game and so far ive been able to get the basics down all the way from building to winning hands. i have played online and on dragon kong my only situation atm is not having anyone to actually play with or learn from in person and the actuall scoring and points of each complete hands resulting in the payouts. If theres any help and or advice i could recieve it would me grately appreciated!

Hello
I am Cor Hoogland from Holland.

Play only mahjong, recently on tenhou but also on Janryumon
Visit a couple of tournamnets during the years together with my wife Ans.
We own a big dog, New Foundlander, and many Eauropean players know that when we are playing, the dog is waiting.
We both play Riichi since 2008
Ans became in 2009 British Champion and in 2010 Dutch Champion
We speak and write English rather well
This year for the third time to England, Windsor for a two-days game
I hope this info will be enough to give you a rough idea

My housemate brought a mahjong set home with him one day, and we decided to learn. 4 hours of Youtube videos later and we started playing, and haven't really stopped.

I've played in a couple of tournaments in the UK, coming 11th at Oxford in April and 3rd at Windsor earlier this year, I'd love to take part in some of the European tournaments, but unfortunately, money and studying makes that hard for me.

I do play online, but not as much as I'd like to, I tend to get into bad habits when playing online, I mainly play with housemates most nights of the week.

I'm really just looking to be able to talk with like minded people about Richii Mahjong. I have a love for anime and have been studying the Japanese language. This lead me to an anime called Saki that introduced me to Mahjong, after that I was hooked. Unfortunately I live in a very small town and have no one to play with so Online or computer opponents have been my main stay. I would love to own a set of mahjong tiles and teach the kids how to play (I have 2 girls that are 10 and 12 y/o) and maybe one day an automatic mahjong table (because they seem so cool, lol). I've peeked the kids interest by letting them try janryumon on the ipad, so there is hope yet for some family game nights in the future.

Anyway, its nice to meet all of you and I hope to make some friends!
Rowen (aka John)
