Hey!

I'm Marek from Poland. I'm 26 years old. I have played Riichi for 2 years. My first encounter with the real Mahjong was in Yakuza 2 - hey, Bart! ;) At the time I didn't even know what a Yaku was. After I'd learned the basics I decided to buy my own tile set. I got 3 friends to play with me. And so it went..

I've played Mahjong seriously (meaning: to improve my skills) for a year now. I play Tenhou. I'm currently @ 2nd Dan, so still just a beginner. My nickname is Krabman.

We have our own FB Mahjong Group and a small, unofficial club. We're trying to promote Riichi locally and teach some people to play.

I also run the first ever Polish Mahjong blog where I write different Mahjong articles and analyze my Tenhou games. Feel invited to check it out. It's in Polish only but I'm sure I'll post in English someday too.

FB Group

My little blog

Aside from Mahjong I love video games, music (mostly metal), languages and cats.

This is a great forum! I'm sure we're gonna have some fun here :)

Hi Marek. Great to meet another player who got into mahjong via Yakuza 2. 8) I'm saddened that Sega have shown no interest in making English versions of the last couple of games in the series; this will translate (no pun intended) into fewer people outside Japan being introduced to mahjong.

Nice to hear about your local club, your blog and your fondness for cats! I look forward to chatting with you on the forums.

I hope so too. They really missed a trick with Ishin - it would sell especially well with so few big titles released for the PS4 and several others getting delayed.

I skipped 5 but imported Ishin and it's fantastic. :) There's an excellent English guide available here and running the main Japanese wiki through a browser's auto-translate helps a lot too; also I've published free guides for the mahjong (obviously) and the card/dice gambling minigames.

Man, don't tempt me :D You're right about Ishin.

Oh, the power of the internet! Everything's out there, we just have to look for it. Big props to people who created that guide (and you too)!

I still haven't finished Yakuza 4....

Hello! I've been stalking the WWYD section for long enough, figured I should finally bite the bullet and join the forums.

The name's Robert. I'm 23 and I'm a recently graduated student working in California. I've only been playing mahjong for about a year—I was drawn in by Akagi, which inspired me to immediately purchase a set of tiles with no prior experience or knowledge of the game. That motivated me to learn the rules fast, and ever since then I've been teaching my friends and family how to play, though no matter how many I teach it seems impossible to get three of them in the same room at one time.

I'm planning to start playing online a whole lot more. While a physical game is great, I simply don't get to play that often, and I'd like to improve my skills.

Hello, I just started playing riichi mahjong recently. I really enjoy the mix of chaos and strategy. I play Mahjong Demon on my iPad. The AI is OK for a beginner like me.

Location: Suburbia.
Occupation: Numbers.
Interests: Programming.
Quest: Lower my deal-in rate to something non-embarrassing.
Favourite colour: Red, of course!
Favourite Yaku: Iipeikou and chiitoitsu, because it often doesn't take much to transform one into the other, and I love it when you're in that grey zone trying to decide which one to go for. I'm also an obsessive dora prospector. Probably too obsessive.

My daughter loves anime & found about Riichi thru Saki. Now I'm trying to teach my kids. For affiliation, I'm with Pickard. :D :D

Hello there!

If you ever need help with translations of japanese games there's thread called "severely in need of an english translation".

Also if you need help to understand how to play the game or other questions, I bet there will be here people to help you make things clear, myself included, of course.
