RM.com site - problems reports

If you have any trouble with the site, please post it here.
Suggestions are also welcome!

If the problem is that you can't register, logon, or post, you can email me at smal.lint[A]rocketmail.com, or contact directly the site owner at jenn[A]reachmahjong.com.

Currently known issues:
  • The store and registration don't seem to like each other.
  • When there are new posts in the "Newbie introduction" thread, its icon is not shown in red.
  • Editing a post don't put it up into the "recent topics" list, and don't flag it as unread, so it pass unnoticed.
Solved and sub-solved issues:
  • Some old posts incorrectly display the quotation marks (show \" and \' instead of " and '). This is due to the forum move long ago. PM me if a thread bothers you and I'll fix it. You can also edit your own posts.
  • Some old posts don't show the smilies and tiles. This is also due to the forum move long ago. The solution is known: PM me if a thread bothers you and I'll fix it. If it's your own post, you can also fix it yourself: edit the post and uncheck the "Disable smilies" box.
  • The old forum is still top-rated by Google but is more likely to turn-out newcomers than encouraging them to join the (new) forum.
The old forum should be deleted and replaced by a redirect link to the current forum.
The old forum don't exist anymore, but the old site is still here.
  • The RM.com favicon is missing for the forum, though it is correctly shown on the main site.
The line <link rel="icon" href="http://reachmahjong.com/en/favicon.ico" /> is missing in the forum pages.
A simpler solution could be to move the favicon.ico from /en and/or /ja to the site root folder e.g. http://reachmahjong.com.
    Solved!
  • The two RSS feeds links in the main page (below "Subscribe to our Feeds!") are not working.
XML Parsing Error: XML or text declaration not at start of entity
    Location: http://feeds.feedburner.com/ReachMahjong
    Line Number 2, Column 1:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    ^
    Solved!

  • Jongcast's and WWYD links on the main page go to the shop.

iTunes suscription to Jongcast is not working for me. The last podcast available is from the last year. I suppose it has something to do with the RSS.

The latest jongcast link is broken:
http://reachmahjong.com/home/podcasts/jong-cast-69.mp3

(Well, the link is probably fine, but it doesn't look like the file was uploaded yet.)

Problem solved.

Thanks Jenn!

Both are done, so it should be ok for everyone.

Edit: The RSS feeds are back!

As some of you already noticed, the forum's email function is broken.
Some users never get the PM notifications and registration activation email, while it works fine for some other users.

To don't miss any PM, I'll suggest you to activate pop-ups notifications from the User Control Panel.
So, if your pop-ups blocker say it blocks something, you'll know you have a new PM.

To register, if you don't get the activation email, send me an email (see the first post) with your username and I'll activate it.

I'll see what I can do tonight.

Some posts are shown blank too (might be related).

I see that some (not all) hyperlinks are completely missing from posts and signatures too.

So I'm going to assume this is due to the redesign of the home page of this site (which got revamped on the 17th of May :o I hadn't noticed till today, since I've only been checking the forums)... Probably a php upgrade and the forums didn't also get it?

That's what I assume.
But it seems the FTP access have changed too :(

Can Jenn apply a fix or reinstate your access?

Aside from the error messages, empty posts and missing links, I can't make/edit a post with even the most basic formatting tags.

When you preview/submit it, the entire message text disappears and you get the error "Your message contains too few characters."

Steve pointed out that you can still upload an image but the button to Place Inline is missing. I tried a workaround by manually typing the attachment tag but of course it errors again.

I'm building up a backlog of vaguely interesting content I want to share!

Are we witnessing the end of the forum?
I have noticed practically no one using it the past few weeks most likely due to the many technical problems that now exist.
Casual users are staying away due to the many blank posts and that full page error screen appearing all over the place.
Since most of the popular topics utilize photos and attachments, and there is no way to do that now because the "place inline" button has vanished, regular users are avoiding posting new material.
I know someone is trying to rectify all of this but is obviously not having much success, for one reason or another.
I myself feel sadness seeing all of this, as I have immensely enjoyed my time on the forum in the last 6 (almost) years.
I really hope things get straightened out.
