I've been thinking of Get Smart recently. At my new offices you have to go through four doors to get inside
Ah! The old house-of-four-doors-moody-blues-trick!
I hope that you don't also have to go through a phone booth with a descending floor in order to get to your office.

That sanbaiman... At first I thought "if only you would have got tsumo..." then I realized my mistake
Your comment made me go back and re-analyze the scoring of that hand to confirm that it WAS a Tsumo.
It was. A Ron win would have been only 30 fu, not 40.
Then I noticed that my scoring app only gave me a Baiman, 16000 points.

I was baffled. What happened to the other 2 Han?
I used my other scoring app and there it was. SAN RENKO.

I didn't notice this during the game. My mind incorrectly saw SAN ANKOU, even though I knew the pongs were exposed. 三暗刻 looks similar to 三連刻 at a quick glance (if you don't read japanese).
So now I know. Onsen mahjong allows the optional SAN RENKO. Good for Me!
It's rare enough that I never realized I had it. Hence, Sanbaiman.

Ah, yes. That makes sense. The other thing that led me to sanankou on the cursory glance was those turned face-down tiles, that for me screamed concealed (by analogy with an ankan).

But then if it had been concealed you would probably have reached. Kazoe Yakuman, even without hitting the ura. Nice hand.

Thanks. Maybe you can help with another related problem.
In this picture, the dora indicator is South and the ura dora indicator is 3 bam.
That means the dora is West and the ura dora is 4 bam.
Since there is a 4 bam and a red five, that yields 2 dora, as shown.
No problem here.

Next picture.
The dora indicator is 2 bam and the ura dora indicator is Hatsu.
That means the dora is 3 bam and the ura dora is Chun.
Since I have neither, with a red five, that yields 1 dora, as shown.
No problem here, either, except there was no riichi.

Again, in the picture of that Sanbaiman,
The dora indicator is Haku and the ura dora indicator is 6 crak.
That means the dora is Hatsu and the ura dora is the 7 crak.
I have a pung of 7 crak and a couple of red fives, so only 2 dora are shown.
Again, no riichi, yet an ura dora is indicated. What is going on here?

from Barts guide:
"Kazoe Yakuman (Counted Yakuman or Natural Limit) is awarded when you win with a hand worth a total of thirteen or more Han from Yaku and Dora (all named Yakuman hands like Dai San Gen also have a nominal value of thirteen Han). If counted Yakuman are disallowed then the top limit for "natural" hands becomes the Sanbaiman limit."

So if this game disallows counted yakuman, it might set a limit of 12 Han (Sanbaiman), even if you have more than that, disallowing the additional dora.

Note: if you think this post makes no sense, you're probably right.

The kazoe yakuman explanation makes sense in the scoring, but less in the list of the hand's yaku and dora.

If you haven't declared riichi, the ura dora (and riichi yaku) should not be scored, which seems to be the case here.

The interface is a bit confusing. Writing "dora something" would mean "something" is the actual dora, not the indicator.
Also, there is no point to reveal the uradora is you're not in riichi.

Also, there is no point to reveal the uradora if you're not in riichi.
Did some additional testing on various game apps.
Some games definitely reveal the ura dora when not in riichi while others do not
There are times when I wish I could just ignore, or just not notice these little flys in the ointment.
Why do they do that!!!!

This reminds me of a UK 80s/90s darts-based TV gameshow called Bullseye.

Infamously if the contestants lost the final round the host would still reveal the grand prize which they'd failed to win!

"Look at what you could've won."

Cruel, but that would explain everything.

"You could've had a yakuman, Ha! Ha!"

Next contestant!

Hahaha I was going to give this a try today since Sega MJ was doing maintenance but it looks like it shut down early this year. Says service ended on Feb 9th.

Aaww man, that's sad, I cannot play it due to the region, but I wanted to try this game... Well, things like these happen...

Referring back to the post of Sept 15
update:
Going, Going, Gone! Well that was an eye-opener. So many players with ratings of 1.6-2.0 and 1st place winning percentages from 45%-55% are tough to compete with.
A rating of 2.2 is just not good enough for the top 100.
The top score was 1.678
I will have to try much harder in October
Being disappointed with my performance last month trying to secure a position in the top 100 list (45 game minimum), I set out to raise the level of my game, mainly by being more careful with my discards and realizing the consequences of a bad choice. Even started talking to myself. To riichi or not to riichi....that is the question, Hamlet Act III Scene I or Star Trek VI.

Anyway, whatever I'm doing, it seems to be working.
The monthly competition is over, the list is full, and I'm in there at #51 with a rating of 1.844 over the course of 90 games.

CRY HAVOC AND LET SLIP THE DOGS OF WAR!!
Sorry, everythings cool and calm, just got carried away.
This was a real battle and I was determined.
Finished strong. 1st, 1st, and 1st.

Wow your numbers are pretty good, 53 percent of Top Position...

Thanks. I tried real hard, probably above and beyond.
Not sure if I'd be able to do it again;
But I will give it a shot..........

Update:
Have not been able to break into the top 100 in November through February.
It's not that I'm playing badly, there are just so many players that are doing much better.
I will play the easier version in March.

Just spotted a Japanese mahjong game for the Nintendo Switch in my Youtube feed.

It's a downloadable title that will be released later this month.
