Mahjong at the movies?

Re: Mahjong at the movies?
Those books seem interesting! Did you read them? Are they any good?
Gettin' back to Mahjong in video games:

It's somehow related to the books mentioned earlier... Killer 7 is such a great game!

That movie with Jackie Chan (IF it had been him!) was a recent one, from 200x. They were playing casually in some apartment.
It could have been a part of Rush Hour series, but I'm just guessing.

Nice video-game spots, Marek! Here's a shot from Suda51's cult-classic game Killer7 which you linked.
At least my Jackie Chan research was fruitful - the Project A mahjong scene was a good find.

...and in fact if I'd stuck with Drunken Master 2 (1994) a little longer I would've been rewarded with some mahjong there too!

A gangster's mother gets frustrated on a naked pair wait in the Hong Kong movie Young & Dangerous (1996).
...and here's a top tip you might like to try next time you're on a losing streak!

Dinosaurs! Hidden among us - and playing mahjong in Chinatown - in the TV movie Anonymous Rex (2004).
At first glance those are neat Japanese rows of six discards but in fact they're melded sets.

The long, gritty, violent Korean thriller The Yellow Sea (2010) has some mahjong scenes near the start.
There are some nice close-ups of the table including this Chankan win - robbing the kong!

Two more stills from the same movie. Real men play for cash!
An altercation reveals a chessboard on the underside of a table.
Connoisseurs of tabletop games will spot this is a Xiangqi (Chinese) rather than a Janggi (Korean) board. This is because the film begins in China (in the Korean prefecture).

A cosy match of post-war mahjong under a kotatsu in the early Kurosawa film Drunken Angel.
A quick game of Chou-Han (even/odd dice gambling) played for high cash stakes in the same movie.

Hong Kong star Chow Yun-Fat is the eponymous God of Gamblers (1990).
In this simple gambling game two players compete to draw fourteen manzu tiles with the higher total.
萬 means ten thousand so 1 x = 60,000 etc.

I did see one of the movies starring Chow Yun-Fat. It was called The Replacement Killers and I think it was his 1st in the USA.
It was about 15 years ago. Any Mahjong in that one?

Re: Mahjong at the movies?
I've seen a few of his films - The Killer and Hard Boiled were famous ones - but that was a long time ago.
Now here's something a bit different - Filipino mahjong in the movie Gold, Silver, Death (1982).
Players hold sixteen slim tiles which are designed to be used with racks. A winning hand has five sets and a pair.
Bonus flower tiles (including the winds and dragons) are declared and displayed above the hand.

The 2009 Korean movie Thirst, directed by Park Chan-Wook (known for the cult-classic Oldboy).
Scoring appears similar to Chinese Official rules - Little Four Winds always gives bonus points for the half-flush.
