Score Error

Post by wyce » Thu Dec 10, 2009 3:58 am

Shouldn\'t my hand be a haneman? I hit the dealer with a 7 yaku hand so shouldn\'t it not be an 18 000 point hand? Image

Your hand is a haneman, but haneman is worth 18k only for east, 12k for others.

Uh oh, this game prove be be problematic now that i realized i\'ve been counting scores all wrong...

SO, using the

Limit hands
Hand Fan East Other
Mangan 5 4000 20004000
Haneman 6 - 7 6000 30006000
Baiman 8 - 10 8000 40008000
Sanbaiman 11 - 12 12000 600012000
Yakuman 13+ 16000 800016000

ONLY as east you can get the full amount of a \"limited hand\"?
Ex.Haneman 18k direct hit or tsumo

As Other it\'s IMPOSSIBLE to achieve the maximum points of a \"limited hand\"
Ex. Haneman 12k tsumo, direct hit another Other player 12k, direct hit dealer 12k?
wouldn\'t it make sense that a direct hit to the dealer would have a higher payout? If the dealer can win big off the little guys why not the other way around? That would be the risk of the dealer..

In Riichi Mahjong, the value of a hand is based on it\'s content, not on the way it ends.
The dealer have some priviledges:
- he can get continuances (renchan).
- he earn 1.5 times more than other players.
But it have drawbacks:
- he pays more than other players.

If the dealer can win big off the little guys why not the other way around? That would be the risk of the dealer..
The little guys can win more too ... when they are East.
If everyone can win more all the time, it will defeat the meaning of \"winning more\".

The dealer have already a risk : if someone else wins by tsumo, he pays double than others.
There is another risk : if someone else just win (tsumo or ron), or if he is not tenpai in a draw hand, then he is not East anymore. It can seems trivial, but sometimes it is determinant for the whole game.
Cats don't do タンヤオ (tan-yao) but タニャーオ (ta-nya-o).

It\'s not a matter of "full amount" or not full amount. The dealer always gets 1.5x the points for a win (and pays 2x when a non-dealer tsumos).

A limit hand (mangan) earns the dealer 12000, while non-dealers earn 8000.

Hand Dealer/non-dealer points
Mangan 12000/8000
Haneman 18000/12000
Baiman 24000/16000
Sanbaiman 36000/24000
Yakuman 48000/32000
