With regards to open and closed rules for yaku requirements, do the rules for certain hands require for the entire hand to be closed or only the meld. For example since an iipekou needs to be closed, does this refer to the entire hand or just the two same consecutive melds. I figure the former is true, but I just wanna be sure. Sorry for the newbie question. And thanks again for the help!

You are right, it refers to the whole hand. The only ones that care only about the specific sets are sanankou and suuankou.

Similarly, with something like sanshoku, it will be 1 han if the hand is open, even if the sets themselves are not.
