So, first hand of an east/south match. Some possible choices are......

5-bam Red five, isolated, better now than later. No, I'd rather not, still 11 tiles left to get another five or a connector to it (4 or 6).

1-dot Open up and commit to tanyao. No, too early. Drawing the 1-crak or 9-crak would then be a waste. (six tiles still available). Stay concealed, for now.

I would toss the 8-crak . The only reason to keep it would be to get a third one and at this point, I don't see a reason to do that.
I only have 4 pairs in the hand, if I had 5, might be a different story.
This way, maybe riichi, pinfu, 2 dora, who knows. See what develops.

Feel free to comment, even if you disagree, can't learn more any other way.

I'd chuck the 7-crak . Two of the 9s are already gone so you chances at pinfu are lower than the other possible wait at 23c. My over all goal is just men-pin-dora, with a chance at iipeikou, and possibly another dora in the 5b if that comes up before iipeikou (though the 3c would be my next discard after the 7.

or2az: My only comment I have on your thoughts is that throwing the 1d opens up the possibility that you'll end up in furiten if the 23d becomes your final wait. Not saying that it's wrong, furiten reaches can be an interesting way to play, but it would be something that would make me strongly avoid the 1d discard unless I've already drawn a 4d (but even at that point you've linked up with the red 5d for another possible ryan-men wait).

I never really considered tossing the 1-dot, just threw it out there in case others (beginners) might consider it. I'm using method 2, remember, considering all possible scenarios.viewtopic.php?f=49&t=53253&p=57196&hili ... d+2#p57194
Also, since you are thinking men-pin-dora, what possible use would you have for two 8-crak in your hand?

Even though there are two 9-crak out, there are still four 6-crak left to complete the chow, hence my reason for discarding the 8 instead of the 7.

Rather than the 7-crak , the 3-crak is better. The 14m wait is stronger than 69m.
