Uma allocation when points are tied?

Post by Barticle » Wed May 27, 2009 10:11 am

Under the Euro Mahjong Association rules, uma points are applied at the end of each game as follows: 1st +9000, 2nd + 3000, 3rd -3000 and 4th -9000.

The rules also say that any players tied on points receive/pay the average of their uma, so for example two players tied for first/second get +6000 each.

I´m playing Reach on the minigame in Yakuza 2 (PS2 game) where there´s a big uma - +25k/0/-10k/-15k - and I´d been wondering if this followed the EMA rules in the event of a tie.

One game I played last wkend ended as follows (I was South ...in my defence I was experimenting and not playing my best!!).

Code: Select all

North 32400 got +26000 (1st place uma plus a leftover riichi stake)
South 24700 got 0
 East 24700 got -10000
 West 17200 got -15000
So basically South and East were tied and yet South (me!) got the 2nd place uma and East got third.

Now I´m not going to argue with this decision ;) but I just wondered if any rule might´ve influenced this outcome?

In this case the game uses a common rule which is that in case of a tie, the turn order decides who comes out on top.

Okay, thanks. So this is like the rule that, if two players declare ron on the same discard, then the winner is the one nearest to the discarder´s right, i.e. the one that would´ve had their next turn sooner.

In this case the count must´ve started with me since otherwise E preceeds S in the play order. So was it because I made the final discard in the hand, or East made the final discard and I was the first player to their right?

As Hotel said, whoever was East first in a game gets priority on ties, then South, then West. In a way this makes sense, since being the last to be East is a slight advantage (and a big one if you\'re allowed to quit on a win).

Ohhh! The order in which they were East, gotcha!

I thought it was the order of play during the final hand.

Thanks!
