That makes a lot of sense. When I first came across Riichi the east/south marker was described as the dealer marker. After more searching to learn the game I found out it is the FIRST DEALER marker denoting when you have to switch to South from East (ie when east gets back to the first dealer) ...

If this is so then that would present a small issue of tracking the dealer (in the west and chinese sets you have a disc that holds the dice showing the wind)

I understand that the japanese just move the dice around keeping it near the current dealer. Sometimes I just move the Matsuoka Wind Marker from dealer to dealer but then I have to remember where we started.

I for one, being raised on chinese trad. frequently forget to move the dice back to the dealer (even when it is me) remembering several turns later ... sometimes I even pinch the wind indicator from my chinese set to keep track.

It makes a lot of sense to have a marker follow around with the dealer, particularly if you are not used to moving the dice around.
