Tips for handling tiles
Since I usually play online, it\'s been a while since I\'ve touched my actual set (plastic), and I\'m finding that I\'m having trouble handling tiles. Whenever I try to move a group of them together, they tend to slip. A 13 or 14 tile hand I can usually manage (but not always), but when it comes to walls, well, tiles go flying. Does anyone have any tips for moving large groups of tiles?

Very simple. When moving a wall, apply gentle pressure against the BOTTOM tiles (squeezing the BOTTOM tiles together).

I meant the problem was with the length of the wall, not the height. As soon as I try to carry more than 14 tiles (lengthwise), everything just falls apart. It feels as the tiles are slipperier than they should be. Maybe it\'s the plastic, or maybe it\'s just me...

What I told you is the answer to the problem. You should try it.andrewshen123 wrote:I meant the problem was with the length of the wall, not the height.
Edit: Before pushing the bottom end tiles towards one another, the wall must be perfectly straight.

what surface are you moving them on? it could be a bit of a drag.

Try to make as much use of your hand as possible, don\'t just push the outer tiles, you can use your index finger and thumb further in and help push and stabilize. This works if you want to move your hand easily too. But I\'m sure you knew that, it\'s pretty much the basics :)
If you still can\'t get good control of your tiles I reommend that you play with them, when you sit in front of the computer for example. This will get you a better feel of the tiles.

I have better than average fine motor skills (all those years playing wind instruments,) but making the transition from the larger Chinese tiles to the smaller Japanese has been interesting. I think it is all about practice...the smaller tiles require a deft touch and that seems to be something I\'m improving at with every play.
I also think my new set is less slippery now that they\'ve been handled - the oil from the fingers, greasy food, etc.
