Oya Tenpai and Renchan?

Post by azn86.jedi » Wed Jun 02, 2010 8:31 am

Hi guys, got some more questions....

I know that if the the dealer- or oya- is tenpai at the end of a draw round he stays as dealer. what happens to any riichi bets that are placed during that round?

Also, is that any different to a renchan? I do know that there are these "bonus rounds"... eg East Round 1 Bonus round 2, etc.

Can anyone kindly explain? This little nuance about Riichi gameplay is a stumbling block for me.....

Thanks.

Dan

The riichi bets stay in the middle, to be gathered by the first player that wins a hand.

And other than that, there's no other difference with a renchan. In fact, a better way to describe that round would be "East round 1, 2 continuances". Because oya continues being so. If that happened on East 1, 2 continuances, next hand is East 1, 3 continuances. (If in your rules East gets a continuance by being Tenpai in the East round, that is. Otherwise it becomes East 2, 3 continuances). (So yes, "continuance" isn't a perfect word choice, either).

thanks Ref, that clears it up somewhat....

i thought the "continuance rounds" would reset to 1 (or nothing) if a player other than the oya wins in a "continuance round"?

Yes, when a player other than Oya wins (and the Oya did not win), the "continuance" is reset to zero.

Correct. But if the deal passes, but no one won (draw), the continuances keep adding up.

oh right so in the event that it's an exhaustive draw and the oya is not in tenpai then east goes to the next player but the countinuances continue?

Ok that explains it....
